Ivanhoe Mines’ Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold project, Mongolia
AMEC is involved in six separate projects associated with the Phase 2
underground expansion of the mine site, which will see a 90,000 tpd
underground mine, concentrator expansion and related infrastructure
added to the currently-under-construction open-pit mine and
concentrator.

Global mining trends – the market
Drivers and trends
Strong fundamentals for the foreseeable future
Long-term commodity demand outlook remains unchanged
BRIC country industrialisation and urbanisation
Chinese growth will continue, but at slower rate than expected in April 2011
Commodity prices remain
robust despite volatile macro
environment
Commodities demand will
evolve as emerging economies
transition from construction to
consumption-based growth
Projected urbanisation (bn of people)

7
Global mining trends – the market
Global trends in mine development
Resources increasingly difficult to access – plays to AMEC’s strengths
Fewer easy-to-produce resources are leading to more challenging, complex
and expensive developments
More remote and riskier locations
More underground rather than surface mining
More logistical infrastructure and environmental controls
Availability of skilled personnel remains a significant resources constraint
