TheMP15DC’sstandardBlombergBtruckswerecapableoftransitionandroadspeedsupto60mph(97km/h),allowinguseonroadfreights.SoontherewasademandforamodelwithanadvancedACdrivesystem.TheMP15ACreplacedtheMP15DC’sDCgeneratorwithanalternatorproducingACpowerwhich isconverted toDCfor the tractionmotorswithasiliconrectifier.TheMP15ACis1.5ft(457mm)longerthananMP15DC,theextraspace being needed for the rectifier equipment. The alternator-rectifiercombinationismorereliablethanagenerator,andthisequipmentbecamethestandardfornewdiesel-electriclocomotivedesigns.
