United Nation's Development Progress So Far

• Drop primary school fees in Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Malawi, Nepal and Tanzania which led to a notable increase in student enrollment in some countries.

• Investing teaching infrastructure in Ghana, Nepal and Tanzania to increase the number of teachers in the country and to other resources such as renovating, school supplies, and building closer schools.

•  Encouraging families and support campaigns to let girls go to school and also annulling the law where girls as young as 16 can be married.

•  World Food Program (WFP) provides school meals which led the parents to send their children to school.

HOWEVER

Page 6: Millennium Goal 2

Despite the great strides in many countries, the goal is unlikely to be met.

• There are still child labors in many countries including North Korea.

• In some countries, children are too ill to go anywhere.

• Afghan school girls were splashed with acid on the face for going to school. Pakistani has been threatening the same thing.

Children of regular North Koreans

• Students do not get enough school supplies therefore their potential to get the best education is very limited.

• Every day, 10 to 15 students skip school since they have to go with their parents to find food.
