2015 SPRING FEVER FREE COPY Today, as I put this newsletter together I believe if you listen closely you can indeed hear the snow melt. And what a blessing that is. There is no question the winter has been harsh and some of you may know that our greenhouse #3 collapsed under the weight of the snow. We are fortunate that no one was hurt. And our farm is just a small cog in the food production wheel and we know many commercial Greenhouse growers across the Maritimes are facing more devastating losses. Our loss for our small farm is staggering. Too, we have lost production in our other greenhouses due to the lack of light. Light, yes there is one, & we will rebuild & restructure & hopefully, by summers start we will be producing & picking greens ..the best greens we can offer. Soon, we will be singing Happy Spring! Good day everyone! Please find attached our Millennium Gardens Farm Spring Newsletter. It’s pretty full so really I should be calling it a little newspaper. You may need to let it download fully to enjoy the great photos. There is so much to share with all of you about what great things have been happening at the Farm over the past year, and I couldn’t possibly fit everything in, such as the wonderful events we participated in, the Awesome Challenge and the Kids Food Fair at Dr. JC Wickwire, the Growing Green Festival, Farm Works Flavours, the farm markets, and just being visible in the community. This year we will have great successes too, they may just be a bit more challenging with the recent loss of one of our greenhouses and the build up of snow on the other two which has halted our greens production completely until the snow melts....Soon, it will be soon, and we will be rebuilding, restructuring, planting and picking. We have had and continue to have the great support from our customers and our community, we are truly blessed to be surrounded by wonderful folks and to live in such a great place.Enjoy the newsletter and we shall see you around, either at the farm, The Riverbank General Store & Café for breakfast and a smoothie, Victoria’s Smoothie Bar at Lanes or at one of the great events at The Port Grocer.Warmest regardsVictoria & Scott

Today, as I put this newsletter together I believe if you listen closely you can indeed hear the snow melt.

Too, we have

lost production in our other greenhouses due to the lack of light. Light, yes there is one, & we will rebuild & restructure & hopefully, by summers start we will be producing & picking greens ..the best greens we can offer. Soon, we will be singing Happy Spring!

It’s been a long & weary winter

Hummingbird Herbals

For the past three years we have opened our home and farm to Wwoofers otherwise known as Willing Workers on Organic Farms. And while we are not certified organic everything we grow is as close to organic as you can get! Our woofers come from all over, Germany, Belgium, Toronto, Quebec. and beyond. To date we have had 12 amazing young people mentor with us.Some staying 2 weeks while others have stayed for 6. And after a long day of work there’s always time for fun!

Last year Millennium Gardens Farm was approached by Mount St. Vincent University. We were asked if we would consider hosting an Applied Human

Nutrition Student for an Internship at the farm. What an honour to be the first farm in the province to have a nutritional student on site and what a progressive step for the University.

Pairing Nutritionists with farms makes sense, the first place in food production. And, what a great option for students when they are planning their future careers in the world of food. Esther worked with me on the marketing and nutritional research needed for Hummingbird Herbals, she was such an asset to that side of our business. As well, Esther picked her share of greens helped plan with a critical eye our shop, and helped process chicken and sausage.

Here is a link to an interview she did with the Mount after her internship here.

!

A lot of our successes last year were possible with the great efforts & support from the young folks who willingly & passionately come to our farm to work and stay for a spell.
