er Hello Brothers and Sisters:

I hope your beginning of summer was full of sunshine and fun.

I attended the state convention and there is a combined project for veterans with the Auxiliary.

The VFW is concentrating on doing fundraising to assist our homeless vet-erans. As you know there are veterans that do not feel “safe or comforta-ble” taking assistance and housing from government programs. Our goal this year is to get small portable tents to all of those veterans.

Congratulation to Dennis Sullivan as this year’s Commander and to all his officers.

We have started to get supplies to build our outdoor storage shed which will be built by Dan Saville.

Please mark your calendar for Sunday August 7th, the annual post family picnic. Please bring the kids as we are going to have horse rides and music.

I will be setting up poppy tables during the summer to build up the assistance fund. Please, if you have free time, your help is needed to greet and talk with people that are happy to say “Thank you for your service” I have had numerous people say they have been looking for our poppies each year.

Dist. 3 will meet July 16th at Glens Falls post 2475 for Michael Hoag’s and Terry McGarr’s Homecoming as District Commander and President this year.

Aug 28th is the date set for the HMCC picnic but as of now a location has not been determined.

I have to have a medical procedure on July 12th, if any questions come up please contact Bill McGarr or Barry Cronkhite for any assistance. I will be in contact with them after that procedure.

Any ideas that can be used as fundraisers for our homeless veterans, please contact me.

Have a fun summer. Gary Kaiser,

Commander

Auxiliary President’s Message

Anchored to Serve Our Veterans

And Their Families

Good news the nice weather has finally arrived and I think the pollen season is finally over. I know like myself many of you can have a hard time with allergies this time of year. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day. We had a beautiful day for the parade and ceremony at Crandall Park. Again this year the Commander and Becky made a lovely float for us to ride on. After we attended the picnic at Post 2475 Glens Falls. Well here is the bad news for those who did not pay their dues by June 30th. You are no longer a member. This means you are no longer eligible for a cancer grant and have lost your continuous years of service. In order to be-come a member again you will have to reapply as a new member. Please we hope that you will reconsider and come back. Just come to the post for an application or contact me [email protected] or 796-7942 or you can download one from the National website. As I have been telling you this past year we are now the VFW Auxiliary which means that male relatives are now eligible to join us. Come join us as a family. For those of you who are annual members the department is running a BLUE PLATE SPECIAL. What does this mean? The de-partment is discounting the portion they collect from each member from $5.50 to $4.50. which helps the auxiliary out in that for every member we will be able to keep $1.00 in our treasury and put that toward programs that will help our Veterans and their families. This special runs from July 1 through September 30, 2016. We are asking our annual members to send in their dues during this time to help us to help others. Dues can be sent to Terry McGarr 56 3rd Street, Glens Falls, N.Y. 12801. Remember if you have belonged to the auxiliary for a year and are over 70 dues are $12.50. All others are $17.50. Also life memberships are the way to go. The auxiliary will pay $20 of your total cost. Thank you and we hope to hear from you. The VFW National Home for Children is celebrating 90 years. I am not sure if you are aware that they have been a member of the Labels for Education program. Unfortunately Campbell's is discontinuing this program. The Na-tional Home has been using the label donations to purchase vans for transportation. Currently they are working on their 7th van and are in need of 27,385 more labels to achieve this goal. Products for this program are Camp-bells, Bic, Pace, Pepperidge Farms, Spagettios, Swanson, V8 splash, V8 Fusion and V8. If you would like to drop these off at the post I would be happy to mail them in or you can send them yourself to: VFW National Home for Children, 3573 S. Waverly Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. If you do it yourself could you send me a note telling me how many you sent. These labels have to reach the National Home by Monday July 11th so they can get them in by the deadline. Thank you for your support of the VFW National Home for Children as they get no federal or state funding. They depend on you! I would like to thank our Bingo kitchen workers for all their time and dedication. Welcome to the crew Clyde Sherman and Debbie Rondeau. Thank you to all the volunteers who help at Bingo. We can't ask you enough, if you have an hour or two please come help out. VFW National convention will be held in Charlotte, N.C. July 23-27th. NASCAR fans know this is the home of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. I am hoping and am sure that there will be much more there to see. Our next meeting will be July 18th at 7 p.m. Hope to see you there I wish everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July. God Bless Our Veterans. Please pray for those serving and bring them home safely. God Bless the USA. Lynne
