38 An Interesting Second World War Pathfinder DFC Group of Seven Medals, awarded to Flight Lieutenant T A Rippon Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, comprising Distinguished Flying Cross (GRI) dated 1945 (London Gazette 20th Feb.1945), 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with clasp NORTH AFRICA 1942-43, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, Coronation Medal 1953 and European Medal, court mounted, together with related ephemera including three log books dating from 1940 to 1969, which include details of raids on Tobruk to Pathfinder missions against German Submarine pens, rocket bases and troop positions; Warrant for promotion, a folder of photographs and transcripts from his diaries. **Flight Lieutenant Thomas Arthur Rippon began training in December 1940 as an Air Gunner, he left the UK in May 1942 en route to Gibraltar and then Cairo. He flew on Wellingtons with 108 Squadron and was tasked as a Front Gunner and bombed Panzers and Airfields. He carried out forty two separate operations up until December 1942. His third tour began in August 1944 with 35 (Pathfinder) Squadron with raids on VI launch sites, attacks south of Caen, marshalling yards, followed by numerous raids on Germany. He finished this tour in December 1944. He was recommissioned in July 1949. In all, he flew 321 operational hours and 64 sorties £3000 - 5000

485 A Tower New Land Pattern Cavalry Pistol Converted to Percussion, (as issued to "The King's German Legion"), the 23cm steel barrel with Tower Ordnance marks and Hanovarian numbers 60 to most parts, with typical Hanovarian conversion features including lateral safety bolt and reinforced brass throat plate to the walnut stock, the steel lock plate stamped with crowned GR, crowned arrowhead and TOWER, with brass fore-end tip, trigger guard, sideplate and butt cap with steel lanyard ring and steel swivel ramrod. **This pistol was issued to Hanovarian Troops who fought with the British at Waterloo. Following the cessation of hostilities the Legion returned to Hanover with their arms which, in the 1840's, were converted to percussion. The number 60 which is stamped on the pistol relates to the numbering system use by Hanover's Garde-Kurassieregiment £700 - 900
