Miley CyrusMiley Cyrus was born 23rd November 1992, she is an American actress and pop singer. Miley achieved her worldwide fame for her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel programme Hannah Montana, which ran from 2006 to 2011. Cyrus was ranked in 2010 number 13 on Forbes Celebrity 100 list, the youngest on the list earning $54 million. On the Hannah Montana shows Cyrus earned $15,000 per episode making her the 6th highest paid actress of her age. Cyrus has released 3 albums so far in her music career; Meet Miley Cyrus, Breakout and her recent one Can’t Be Tamed. Many of her singles have done well in the charts worldwide.

Album Cover: BreakoutNo eye contact- shows her as innocent and young.

Doesn’t show her name- she is known worldwide. Shows us how current and well-known she is.

Her body language and facial expressions show how much fun she is having and how she is enjoying being a young pop star living her dreams.

Outfit is very girly, which is attracting her audience of young girls.

Naming her album breakout could symbolise her breaking away from Hannah Montana and going at her career on her own.

White background- simple but eye-catching.

Album Cover: Can’t Be TamedCostume is very provocative.

Body language is posed in a sexy way giving of an edgy look attracting an older audience.

Name is bigger than the album cover because this can be seen as the ‘new’ Miley Cyrus.

Looking straight into the camera- facial expressions is very intense and powerful, as she’s trying to draw us in.

Use of voyeurism and male gaze to attract a male audience as she already has her female fan base.

Dark background to match her new dark, edgy look.

Could be named this to symbolise her growing up into a women- we shouldn’t see her a young 13 year old girl anymore.

Back of Albums

The back of both these covers are very different . They each show a different Miley Cyrus, the first shows a young pop star having fun and the second shows a more grown up version of Miley, as she is wearing a lot more makeup and is looking more edgy. They have the same layout e.g. all of the singles are on the right hand side and an image of Miley is on the left.

Website

This is Miley’s Official Site. We can see that she still has achieved her purpose of showing to the world the ‘new’ her by using more darker colours on her website and also more provocative and edgy costumes. On the website they also show her upcoming tour this year, ‘Gypsy Heart Tour 2011’. This is the main image that we see, obviously making her the main focal point. For the most important news and updates they have used the font type Old English Text, to show this- jazzes the page a bit still showing her as contemporary and current.

As we can see, Miley Cyrus has changed dramatically over the last few years. Her hair is much longer and she now uses extensions to do this. She has also significantly changed her dressing-style to a more dark edgy, modern look. This works for Miley as she wants

to change her look so she can attract more older audiences , as she already has a strong fan base with her younger audience. We can also see that she has changed from a natural make-up to more dark and current look. This makes her more exciting. I prefer Miley’s new look as she is more edgy and trendy. Her music has also changed from pop to more rock pop matching her new style.

Critics opinions on Miley Cyrus

Towleroad said “Miley Cyrus Hatched Overnight And She’s Ready To Peck.”

The San Francisco Chronicle’s SFGate blog admits they may have been hasty in pre-judging Miley’s new adult direction unfavourably: “Frankly, this is a new sound for Miley Cyrus and when artists takes a new direction it’s always at considerable risk. This corner didn’t think she could pull it off. So wrong. So very wrong.”

MTV Buzzworthy’s Chris Ryan declares the whole thing to be “a pretty clear metaphor for both Miley living a constant life of scrutiny, always under the microscope, and her rebirth as a young woman and different kind of artist.” The write-up ends on an upbeat tick: “We can’t wait to see where she flies off to next.”
