1. Milan “sustainable candidature” to Expo 2015
All preparatory activities, carrying out and “ex-post” activities will be developed according to the principles of sustainability. The event will guarantee long-lasting benefits for the whole city.
2. The candidature for Expo 2015 boosts the plans and the projects for sustainability currently designed or implemented by the Municipality of Milan.
Many essential projects regarding Milan and its surrounding areas are actually being realized or planned, but the Expo 2015 will give us the chance to develop an integrated comprehensive project and reach higher targets.

Milan strategy for sustainable mobility
Targets of the Municipality of Milan for sustainable mobility:
• 30 % reduction of incoming vehicles
• public transport increase: over 50% of trips by public transport
• 25% reduction of PM 10 emissions from transport
PM10 concentration are a critical factor in Milan. In 2005 the 50 mg/mc daily concentration limit has been exceeded for 150 days when the European limit permits 35 days.
Milan strategy for sustainable mobility:1. Public transport development plan
(increase offer; increase frequency; expansion of the underground transport network)
2. Development of “on demand” public transport
3. Development of tariff integration in the regional area
4. Price Parking extension
5. Development of new inter-change parking areas
6. Development of cycling mobility
Milan strategy for sustainable mobility:
7. Rationalization of city logistic
8. Achievement of higher level of road security
9. Development of car sharing services
10. Info-mobility technologies
11. Incentivation of zero/low emission public fleets and private vehicles
12. Pollution Charge
It will speed up the replacing of old (and pollutant) vehicles and make available the financial resources for
public transport expansion.
It will concern an area of 9 kmq. in the city center, limiting the circulation of polluting vehicles by levying the
payment of an entry fee on an average of 78.000 trips that take place in the selected area every day.

TARIFF
• The tariff will be related to PM10 emission factor of vehicles
• The higher the emission factor, the higher the tariff - according to the basic European “polluter pays” principle
CONTROLS
• The control will be guaranteed by electronic video systems
A strategy for sustainable mobility:“Pollution Charge”
PAYMENT
• Will be allowed through:– Credit card– Internet– SMS– Selling points
• The income will be aimed at improving sustainable mobility.
