The BoKlok Story
Skanska and IKEA initiated a dialogue in the mid-1990s. Housing construction was at standstill in Sweden but at the same time there was a need for affordable housing. Skanska and IKEA decided to build “good homes for ordinary people” The concept has been extended across Scandinavia and to the UK through Home Group
4
Who are the ”ordinary”people?
In the UK there are 2 million working households below age 40 unable to access home ownership
5
Who are we building for?
How much do the people who are going to live here afford to pay a month?
What is their idea of a good home?
We chose a different path
6
This is our target group
Working people on incomes (£15,000 -£35,000)
First time buyers and including key workers
Increasing number of smaller households
7
” to develop and produce a space-saving and functional home
offering good quality at a price which enables as many people as possible to
afford a comfortable home ”
