Read the operating instructions be-fore using this machine for the firsttime. They contain important infor-mation about the safety, use andmaintenance of the machine. Thisway you will avoid the risk of acci-dents and damage to the machine.Keep these operating instructions ina safe place and ensure that newusers are familiar with the content.Pass them on to any future owner ofthe machine.

Correct usageOnly use the washing machine towash items which are specified by

the manufacturer to be machine-wash-able on the wash-care label, and tex-tiles composed of hand-washable woolor wool blend fabrics as well as satin,lace, silk and other hand-washable gar-ments.Any other applications may be danger-ous. The manufacturer is not liable fordamage resulting from improper use oroperation.

This appliance should not be oper-ated by children. Supervise its use

by the elderly or infirm.

Technical safetyBefore setting up the machine,check it for any externally visible

damage. Do not install and use a dam-aged machine.

Before connecting the machine,ensure that the connection data on

the data plate (fusing, voltage and fre-quency) match the mains electricity

supply. If in any doubt, consult a quali-fied electrician.

The electrical safety of this appli-ance can only be guaranteed when

continuity is complete between the ma-chine and an effective earthing systemwhich complies with local and nationalregulations. It is most important that thisbasic safety requirement is regularlytested by a qualified electrician.The manufacturer cannot be held liablefor the consequences of an inadequateearthing system (e.g. electric shock).

Do not connect the appliance tothe mains electricity supply by an

extension lead. Extension leads do notguarantee the required safety of theappliance (e.g. danger of overheating).

The machine is built in accordancewith current safety requirements.

Unauthorised repairs could result in un-foreseen dangers for the user, for whichthe manufacturer cannot accept liabilty.Repairs should only be undertaken by aMiele approved engineer.Ensure current is not supplied to theappliance while maintenance or repairwork is being carried out.

The machine is only completelyisolated from the electricity supply

when:

it is switched off at the wall socketand the plug is withdrawn, or

it is switched off at the mains, or

the mains fuse is withdrawn.

Warning and safety instructions

This machine must only be con-nected to the on-site water supply

using a new hose kit. Old hoses mustnot be re-used. Check the hose regu-larly for signs of wear and tear. Changein good time to avoid the risk of leaksand subsequent damage.

Faulty components must only beexchanged for Miele original spare

parts. Only when these parts are fittedcan the safety standards of the ma-chine be guaranteed.

In countries where there are areaswhich may be subject to infestation

by cockroaches or other vermin, payparticular attention to keeping the appli-ance and its surroundings in a cleancondition at all times. Any damagewhich may be caused by cockroachesor other vermin will not be covered bythe appliance guarantee.

UseThis equipment is not designed formaritime use or for use in mobile

installations such as caravans, aircraftetc. However it may be suitable forsuch usage subject to a risk assess-ment of the installation being carriedout by a suitably qualified engineer.

Do not install your washing ma-chine in rooms where temperatures

below freezing may occur. Frozenhoses may burst under pressure. Thereliability of the electronic control sys-tem may be impaired at temperaturesbelow freezing point.

Before using the machine for thefirst time, check that the transit fit-

ting at the rear of the machine has beenremoved (see section on "Installation").During spinning, a transit fitting which isstill in place may result in damage toboth the machine and adjacent furni-ture or appliances.

Turn off the stopcock if the ma-chine is to be left for any length of

time (e.g. holiday), especially if there isno floor drain (gully) in the immediatevicinity.

Flooding danger.If hooking the drain hose into a

wash basin, check that the water candrain off quickly enough to prevent thesink from overflowing.Make sure the drain hose is secure, sothat the force of the water flowing out ofthe hose does not dislodge it. Other-wise this will result in flooding.

Take care to ensure that foreign ob-jects (e.g. nails, needles, coins,

paper clips, etc.) do not find their wayinto the machine with the washing (e.g.in pockets). Foreign objects can dam-age components of the machine, whichin turn can result in damage to thewashing.

If the correct amount of detergentis dispensed, the machine should

not need to be descaled. If, however,you do wish to descale the machineonly use proprietary non-corrosivedescaling agents and strictly observethe instructions on the packaging. If indoubt, contact the Miele Customer Ser-vice Dept. or your Miele Dealer.

Textiles which have beenpre-treated in solvent based clean-

ing agents must be thoroughly rinsed inclean water before being washed in themachine.

Never use solvent based cleaningagents in this machine, as this may

result in damage to component partsand create toxic fumes. Such deter-gents also pose a fire and explosionhazard.

Only use dyes specified by themanufacturer as being suitable for

use in a domestic washing machine. Al-ways observe the manufacturer's in-structions carefully.

Colour run and dye removers con-tain sulphur compounds which can

cause damage such as corrosion. Donot use these products in this machine.

For machines with a portholedoor, remember that the porthole

glass will be hot when washing at veryhigh temperatures. Do not let childrentouch it.

Always make sure the drum is sta-tionary before reaching in to re-

move washing. Reaching into a movingdrum is extremely dangerous.

AccessoriesAccessory parts may only be fittedwhen expressly approved by Miele.

If other parts are used, guarantee, per-formance and product liability claimswill be invalidated.

Disposal of your old machineBefore discarding an old machineunplug it. Render the plug useless.

Cut off the cable directly behind the ap-pliance to prevent misuse. This shouldbe done by a competent person.

Water consumption and energy us-age are determined by the size of theload. Load to the maximum recom-mended for the programme selected.

Programme durations can vary con-siderably due to the automatic loadadjustment feature. Depending onthe amount of laundry, the main washmay be shortened and one rinseomitted.

Use the Mixed Wash programme orthe Quick Wash programme forsmaller amounts of laundry.

To save energy wash normally andlightly soiled laundry at lower tem-peratures. The 95C Cottonsprogramme is probably only neededin exceptional circumstances, e.g.for oil based stains or where a veryhot wash is required.

A main wash (programme withoutpre-wash) is sufficient to clean nor-mally soiled laundry.

By using the additional option Soakfor heavily soiled laundry you can se-lect a lower temperature in the mainwash.

Use the additional option Soak in-stead of Pre-wash with heavily soiledlaundry.If Soak is followed immediately by amain wash the same suds are used.

Use the Short wash option for nor-mally or very lightly soiled laundry.

Do not exceed the amounts of deter-gent which may be recommended bythe manufacturer on the packaging.

Reduce the amounts of detergentwith smaller loads, (e.g. with a halfload, approx. one third less deter-gent).

Select the highest suitable spinspeed in the wash programme whentumble drying afterwards.

Before using the machine for the firsttime ensure that it is correctly in-stalled and connected. See the rele-vant section under "Installation".Also check that the fluff filter is se-curely tightened. Otherwise there isa risk of water leakage during use.

Flushing out the machineAny residual lubricants and water fromtesting still in the machine should beflushed out as follows:

^ Turn on the stopcock.

^ Do not load any laundry.

^ Add detergent to compartmentj,however only add max.1/4 of theamount recommended on the pack-aging for a full load.

^ Press the I-ON/0-OFF button in.

^ Turn the programme selector to COT-TONS 60C.

Important!This programme must be selected in or-der to prepare the machine for spinningand to activate the ball valve.

^ Press the Water plus button in. Theindicator light next to it will come on.

^ Press the "Spin" button repeatedly un-til the Without final spin indicator lightcomes on.

^ Press the START button.

^ When this programme has finishedyour washing machine is ready forusing for the first time.

Water hardness reminder dialSeveral factors including the waterhardness level in your area will affecthow much detergent you should use.The small dial in the detergent dis-penser drawer can be set purely as areminder of the hardness level.

^ Remove the yellow spatula from in-side the dispenser drawer.

^ Adjust the dial to the appropriate set-ting (1 = soft, 4 = very hard).

Brief guideThe headings numbered (A,B,C,...)show the operating sequence and canbe used as a brief guide.

Before washingASort the laundry.

^ Empty all pockets.

Foreign objects (e.g. nails, coins,paper clips, etc.) can cause dam-age to textiles and components inthe machine.

^ Badly soiled areas, e.g. collars andcuffs, and water soluble stains canbe pre-treated with bar soap, liquiddetergent or detergent mixed into asolution or paste.

With particularly stubborn stains askyour dry cleaner for advice.

Do not use solvent-based cleaningagents in this machine.

^ Sort the washing by colour and bycare label symbols. Most garmentshave a textile care label in the collaror side seam.

Dark textiles often contain excess dyeand should be washed separately sev-eral times before being included in amixed load. Always wash whites andcoloureds separately.

Delicate textiles should be washed sep-arately in a delicates programme (use awashing bag where appropriate).

Curtains:Remove lead weights and strips orplace in a laundry bag.

Underwiring and collar stiffeners:Any loose wiring in bras, shirt collarstiffeners, etc. should be removed orsewn in.

Knitted garments, trousers andjeans, T-shirts and sweat shirts:Turn inside out, if recommended bythe manufacturer.

Close any zips, fasten hooks andeyes etc. before washing.

Fasten duvet covers to preventsmaller items rolling up inside them.

Do not wash any items in this ma-chine which are specified by themanufacturer as non-machinewashable on the care label. (hsymbol)

How to wash correctly

BPress the Door button.CLoad the drum.Unfold washing and load loosely in thedrum. To achieve best results it is ad-visable to make up mixed loads con-sisting of both large and small items.This improves the washing effect andhelps distribute the load evenly to keepthe machine stable and reduce thenoise level during spinning.

Overloading reduces the wash resultand causes more creasing.

DShut the door with a light swingbut do not slam it. Do not push onthe door to shut it.

Make sure that there is no obstructionbetween the drum door and seal.

EOpen the stopcock.FAdd detergent.See section on "detergent" for details.

To start a programmeGPress in the I-ON/0-OFF button. The programme selector should be

pointing to Finish, the indicator lightAnti crease/Finish is lit up in thesequence display.

HTurn the programme selector tothe programme required

ISelect any additional option re-quired.

A maximum of two additional optionscan be chosen, provided they are com-patible with the programme selected,(see the Programme survey in the Sec-tion on programmes). Only one optionout of Soak, Pre-wash and Short washcan be selected.

^ Press the button for the Soak,Pre-wash or Short wash additionaloptions, until the indicator for thechosen option lights up.

^ Press the button for the Water plusoption, if required.

An additional option that has been se-lected can be de-selected by pressingthe button.

JSelect a spin speed.

^ Press the "Spin" button enough timesuntil the indicator light for the re-quired final spin speed lights up.

In some programmes the maximumspin speed is limited. The machine willnot allow a higher spin speed to be se-lected (see section on "programmes").

Memory-Function

If the last time a programme was runan additional option or different spinspeed was selected,the machine willhave stored this information in itsmemory.

The next time that programme is se-lected the machine offers the additionaloption and / or spin already stored inmemory (see "Programmable func-tions").

KPress the START button.The programme now starts.

At the end of a programmeWhen the Finish indicator light comeson the laundry can be removed fromthe drum:

LPress the Door button.MPress and release the I-ON/0-OFF

button and turn the programme se-lector to the Finish position.

NRemove the washing.

,Only remove washing from themachine once the drum hasstopped turning, otherwise you mayseriously injure yourself.

OCheck the folds in the door seal forany small articles e.g. buttonswhich might be lodged there.

PClose the stopcock.QClose the drum door.Otherwise there is a danger of objectsbeing placed inadvertently in the drum.If these remained unnoticed and werewashed in the next load, they coulddamage the washing.

Adding or removing washingafter programme startWashing can be added or removed af-ter the programme has already started,when using the following programmes.

^ Press the Door button and hold it untilthe door springs open.

^ Add or remove items

^ Shut the door.

The programme will automatically con-tinue.

Apart from some exceptional casesthe door can be opened during allsections of COTTONS, WOOLLENS,QUICK WASH, Starch and MIXEDWASH - Poly/Cottons (high cottonpercentage) programmes.

All modern detergents produced forautomatic washing machines are suit-able, including liquid, compact (con-centrated), tablets, liquid tablets andspecial application detergents. Use dis-pensing aids, e.g. balls, if these aresupplied with the detergent. Tablets aresuitable for full loads, but note that itmay be impractical to reduce tablets byproportion to suit smaller loads.

Woollens and knitwear containing woolmixtures and hand-washable garmentsshould be washed using a detergentspecifically designed for washingwoollens.

Silk should be washed using a liquiddetergent specifically designed forwashing woollens. Do not use biologi-cal detergents on silk as the enzymesmay damage the silk!

You can choose between four optionsfor the Water plus button.

Switching off the additional optionsIf an additional option is switched on(and the indicator light in the button islit up), the option can be switched offby pressing the button. The indicatorlight goes out.

SpinA final spin is carried out at the endof each of the basic programmes, if aspin speed had been selected.

Without final spinInterim rinse and spin is carried out inthe relevant programmes.

Washing is not spun after the final rinse,but the water is drained away, and themachine goes straight into theanti-crease stage.

Rinse holdInterim rinse and spin is carried outduring the programme cycle.

The washing remains suspended in wa-ter after the final rinse.

This helps to reduce the possibility ofcreasing if the washing is left for sometime before being taken out of the ma-chine.

Electronic programme lockingProgramme locking prevents the ma-chine from being opened or theprogramme cancelled during a washprogramme.

The machine will now not accept anychanges, and the wash programmeproceeds through to the end.

Water plus systemThe Water plus button offers four op-tions, increasing water level and / orbringing in an extra rinse cycle. Toactivate the option press the Waterplus button when selecting your washprogramme before pressing theSTART button.

Option 1Increase in the rinse water level in theCOTTONS, MINIMUM IRON, QUICKWASH and MIXED WASH -Poly/Cottonsprogrammes, where for ex-ample rinse results are particularly im-portant.

Option 2Increase in the water level in all stagesof the COTTONS, MINIMUM IRON,QUICK WASH and MIXED WASH -Poly/Cottons programmes. It is particu-larly suitable for fabrics that need spe-cial care, or where extra attention mustbe given to dissolving detergent. Thisoption is already set when the machineis delivered from the factory.

Option 3An extra rinse cycle is introduced to theCottons programme, e.g. when rinse re-sults are particularly important.

Option 4Increase in the water level in all stagesof the COTTONS, MINIMUM IRON,QUICK WASH and MIXED WASH -Poly/Cottons programmes and adds anextra rinse cycle to the COTTONS

programme, e.g. when rinse results areparticularly important.

This function should be activated iftraditional "big box" detergents areused. For the first 10 seconds of theCottons main wash cycle water flowsin through compartmenti.

Compartmentj may sometimes notbe able to hold the total amount of de-tergent required when:

- the water is very hard (over 3.8mmol/l, water hardness level IV) and

- the washing is heavily soiled.

In this case compartmenti can beused to flush in the extra detergent forthe main wash.

Before the "Activating thei compart-ment" programmable function can beselected you must first select program-ming mode.

Soak timeThis is accessed for a programme bypressing the SOAK button on the fa-cia.

You can programme a soak time of:

- 2 hours (factory setting) or

- 1 hour 30 mins or

- 1 hour or

- 30 mins.

A "Soak time" of 2 hours is set at thefactory. If you wish to change this stan-dard setting to one of the times listedabove, you must first select program-ming mode.







Selecting the programmable functionTo select the "Soak time" programmablefunction turn the programme selector to- WOOLLENS Cold.The Rinse indicator light comes on inthe sequence display. This shows thata "Soak time" of 2 hours is currently se-lected (factory setting).

Selecting a different "Soak time"By pressing the START button a variousnumber of times you can select differ-ent soak times. To confirm that a differ-ent soak time has been selected, theprevious indicator light goes out and anew indicator light comes on.

Each time START is pressed a differentindicator light will come on. The indica-tor lights correspond to the 4 soaktimes available as follows:

2 hours = Rinse

1 hour 30 mins = Rinse hold

1 hour = Drain\Spin

30 mins = Anti crease\Finish

Storing in memoryWhen you have selected the soak timeyou require, SWITCH the machine OFFwith the I-ON/0-OFF button.

Hot suds can damage plastic drainagepipes.

Top-up rinse takes place when temper-atures of 95C and 75C are selected.

Top-up rinse should be activated:

to prevent the danger of scalding ifthe drain hose is hooked over theedge of a sink or basin.

where the drainage pipes do notcomply with DIN 1986.

The washing machine is delivered withthe "Top-up rinse for Cottons" deacti-vated.

Cleaning the washing machine^ Clean the casing with a mild

non-abrasive detergent or soap andwater. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

^ Clean the facia panel and lid with adamp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.

^ The drum can be cleaned using asuitable proprietary stainless steelcleaner.

Do not use solvents, abrasivecleaners, glass cleaners or all-pur-pose cleaners. These might causedamage to the plastic surfaces be-cause of the chemicals they contain.The washing machine must not behosed down.

E-clothA microfibre "E-Cloth" is available fromthe Miele UK Spare Parts Department,Part Number 98013530, which is suit-able for cleaning surfaces such asstainless steel, glass, plastic andchrome without the use of chemicals.

Extra cleaningCarrying out a hot wash (70C orabove) with powder detergent approx.once every six weeks will help preventdeposits building up in the machine.These can occur when washing ismainly done at low temperatures, andlead to unpleasant smells. If you haveno reason to wash laundry occasionallyat this high temperature, then carry outa 95C COTTONS programme as acleaning cycle with powder detergent,but not laundry, at regular intervals.

Cleaning the detergent dis-penser drawer^ Pull out the detergent dispenser

drawer until a resistance is felt.

^ Press down the red release catchand at the same time pull the drawerright out of the machine.

^ Clean the dispenser compartmentsand conditioner channel.Regularly remove any detergent resi-dues.

^ Remove the siphon from compart-mentp.Wash under running warm water andreplace.

Over time, detergent residue can buildup in the water jets in the top of the de-tergent drawer housing.

^ Before replacing the detergentdrawer, use a bottle brush or similarto clean them out.

Cleaning the fluff (drain) filterand pumpCheck the fluff (drain) filter initially after3-4 washes to ascertain how often it islikely to require cleaning.

With normal cleaning approx. 2 litres ofwater run out.

If the drain outlet is clogged, more wa-ter will be retained in the machine (upto 25 litres).

Caution: If laundry has been washedat a high temperature, water drain-ing out of the machine will still behot.

Take the (yellow) filter flap opener frombehind the detergent drawer faciapanel, (see illustration above).

^ Open the flap.

^ Place a dish under the drain fixture.

^ Turn the fluff filter lid round 2-3 times.Do not take it right out.

With large volumes of water, when thedish is full screw the fluff filter back intoposition, and empty the dish before re-peating the procedure.

^ Once the flow of water ceases, re-move the fluff filter completely.

^ Clean the fluff filter thoroughly.

^ Remove any foreign objects (e.g.buttons, coins, etc.) and fluff.

^ Turn the impeller by hand to makesure it rotates freely. Any foreign ob-jects causing an obstruction shouldbe removed.

^ Clean the inside of the fluff filter hous-ing.

Remove any deposits of limescale anddetergent or foreign objects from thethread of the filter housing and filter unitas they can cause water to leak.Limescale deposits are often a sign ofusing too little detergent.

^ Put the fluff filter back in place andsecure it.

Make sure the fluff filter is securelytightened. Otherwise there is a riskof water leakage during use.

After cleaning^ Pour approx. 2 litres of water into the

detergent dispenser compartmentj to reactivate the ball valve whichkeeps detergent in circulation in thesuds.

To clean the water inlet filtersThe washing machine has two filters toprotect the inlet valves.These filtersshould be checked every 6 months orso, or more often if there are frequentinterruptions to the water supply.

To clean the filter in the union in theopen end of the inlet hose:^ First turn off the stopcock.

^ Unscrew the threaded union connect-ing the free end of the inlet hose tothe stopcock.

^ Remove the rubber seal from the re-cess.

^ Using pointed pliers, take holdof the plastic filter bar, remove the fil-

ter and clean.

^ Put the filter and seal back in the re-verse order and reconnect the hose.

Turn on the stopcock and check theconnection is watertight.

Inspect the inlet hose which is sub-jected to high pressure while the ma-chine is in operation. The hose shouldbe replaced if there are small cracks inthe surface, or if it has been otherwisedamaged.If replacing the inlet hose only use ahose able to withstand pressure of atleast 70 bar. Mieles own hoses meetthis requirement.

To clean the filter in the water inletvalve:^ Using pliers, carefully loosen the

ribbed plastic nut on the inlet valve,and unscrew.

^ Use water pump pliers to withdrawthe plastic filter by the bar (see illus-tration). Clean, put back and secure.

The two filters must be put back inplace after cleaning.

Liquid detergent doesnot give the requiredresult.

Liquid detergents donot contain bleachingagents. They do notremove fruit, coffeeand tea stains.

Use a general purposewashing machine powdercontaining a bleachingagent.

Pour stain removers intocompartmentj of the dis-penser drawer and liquiddetergent into a dispenserball.

Never put stain removersand liquid detergent to-gether in the dispenserdrawer.

Insufficient amounts ofdetergent were used tobreak down the particlesof grease, e.g. from oilsand lotions, in heavilysoiled laundry.

Add more detergent. Before washing the next load

run a COTTONS programmeat 70C or above with pow-der detergent but without aload. (See "Extra cleaning" inCleaning and Care).

There are white res-idues which looklike powder deter-gent on dark col-oured laundry.

The detergent containedcompounds (zeolites) toaid water softeningwhich are not soluble inwater. These haveended up on the laundry.

Try and brush off the resi-dues with a soft brush oncethe laundry is dry.

Use a liquid detergent towash dark coloured textiles.Liquid detergents usuallycontain no zeolites.

Opening the drum door in theevent of a power failure^ Switch off the washing machine.

^ Open the fluff (drain) filter flap anddrain the water as described in"Cleaning and care", (fluff (drain) filterand pump).

Caution: if laundry has been washedat a high temperature, water drain-ing out of the machine will still behot.

Always make sure the drum is sta-tionary before reaching in to the ma-chine to remove washing. Reachinginto a moving drum is extremelydangerous.

^ Pull the emergency door latch down-wards (see illustration). The machinedoor will then open.

To check water pressure^ Place a bucket under the stopcock.

^ Turn on the stopcock.

If 5 litres of water flow into the bucket in15 seconds the water pressure is cor-rect.

Installation surfaceA concrete floor is the most suitable in-stallation surface for a washing ma-chine, being far less prone to vibrationduring the spin cycle than woodenfloorboards or a carpeted surface.

Please note the following points:

^ The machine must be level and se-curely positioned.

^ To avoid vibrations during spinning,the machine should not be installedon soft floor coverings.

^ If installing on a wooden joist floor, werecommend a plywood base at least30 mm thick, 590 x 520 mm wide.The base should span several joistsand be bolted to the joists, not only tothe floorboards. Check for the pres-ence of pipes and cables first.The most stable part of the floor isusually in the corner.

,If the machine is installed on araised plinth, it has to be securedagainst slippage during spin usingretaining clips (available from theMiele Spare Parts Dept).

InstallationLift the machine from its packagingbase and move it to its site. Pleasenote:

^ Do not lift the machine by the drumdoor.

^ Ensure that the machine feet and thefloor are dry to prevent the machinefrom slipping during the spin cycle.

Removing the transit fitting

ATurn the left-hand transit bar 90.

CWithdraw the two bars together withthe support plate.

DPlug the two holes with the plasticcaps supplied.

,The washing machine must notbe moved without the transit bars inplace.Store the transit bars in a safe placefor future use. They must be re-fittedif the machine is to be moved again(e.g.when moving house).

Re-fitting the transit barsRe-fitting is carried out by reversing theprocedure.

Levelling the machineThe machine must stand perfectly levelon all four feet to ensure safe andproper operation.

Incorrect installation may increase elec-tricity and water consumption and maycause the machine to move about.

The four adjustable screw feet are usedto level the machine. All four feet arescrewed in when the machine is deliv-ered.

Screwing out and adjusting the feet^ Gently tip the machine and prop it up

using a solid wooden wedge for ex-ample, to ensure stability.

Make sure the machine does not slipas this could cause injury.

^ With a screwdriver loosen and turnthe foot 1 together with thecounternut 2 to the left, (see illustra-tion below) and screw out.

^ Put the machine back on all four feet.

^ Use a spirit level to check the ma-chine is standing level.

^ Hold the foot 1 firm using a pipewrench and turn the counternut 2 tothe right firmly up against the housingwith a screwdriver.

All four counternuts must be firmlyup against the housing. Please alsocheck this for the feet which did notneed adjustment. Otherwise there isthe danger of the machine movingabout.

Building under a worktop^ A special building under conversion

kit* is required which includes acover plate to replace the machineslid.

^ Fitting instructions are supplied withthe conversion kit.

N.B. Cover plate

The cover plate must be fitted in placeof the machines lid to ensure electricalsafety . However, if you wish to pushyour machine under a worktop andthere is space to do this without re-moving the lid, the conversion kit is notnecessary. Otherwise the conversion kitis essential.

^ For installation under a work surface900/910 mm from the floor, a raisingkit* is also required.

^ To ensure electrical safety the con-version kit and raising kit must be fit-ted by a suitably qualified installer.

^ Connections for electricity, water anddrainage should be installed in sucha way that they remain accessiblewhen the machine is in place.

Washer and Dryer stackA Miele tumble dryer can be stackedwith the washing machine. A WTVstacking kit* is necessary and can bepurchased from the Miele Spare PartsDepartment.

* All parts marked with a * are availablefrom the Miele Spare Parts or Sales De-partment, and must be fitted by a suit-ably competent person according tothe instructions supplied with the kit.

Connection to water supplyThe machine should be connected to amains water supply in accordance withstandard regulations. In Germany thewashing machine is not required tohave a non-return valve as it has beendesigned to comply with the relevantGerman DIN standard.

Connection to the mains water supplyshould incorporate a mains stopcockwith 3/4 thread. The stopcock shouldbe fitted by a qualified plumber.

The approx. 1.5 m long 3/8" pressurehose should be connected to the stop-cock via the 3/4" threaded union.

This pressure hose is not suitable forconnection to a hot water supply.Please make sure the washer sits cor-rectly in the union.

The connection point is subject tomains water pressure. Turn on the stop-cock slowly and check for leaks.

If replacing the inlet hose only use ahose able to withstand pressure of atleast 70 bar. This also applies to allfixtures and fittings used. Miele origi-nal parts fulfil this condition.

Longer hoses 2.5 or 4 metres in lengthare available as optional extras.

The machine is designed to operatewith a water flow pressure of 1 bar mini-mum up to 10 bar maximum. The staticwater pressure must not exceed 10 bar.If it is higher than 10 bar it is essentialto fit a reducer valve.

There is a minimum flow pressure of 1bar pressure if 5 litres of water flow intoa suitable container in 15 seconds.

The two dirt filters - one in the open endof the inlet hose, one at the inlet point inthe solenoid valve must not be re-moved.

Connection to the drainagesystemThe machine drains via a drain pumpwith a delivery head of 1 metre.

The drain hose is 1.5 m long. It mustnot be kinked as this restricts drainage.The swivel elbow at the end of the hosecan be turned in either direction, or canbe detached if required, with a sharptwist and pull.

Drain hose connection:1. Direct into a sink or basin:

Please note the following

Hook the hose over the edge and se-cure.

Make sure that the water can drainaway freely without hindrance. Other-wise there is a risk of water overflow-ing or of some of the drained waterbeing sucked back into the machine.

2. Connected securely to a plastic drainpipe with a rubber nipple. There is noneed to use a non-return valve.

3. Connected securely to a standpipe.4. Connected securely to a floor gully.

If required, the drain hose can be ex-tended to a length of 5 m. The neces-sary parts can be purchased from theMiele Spare Parts Department, or yourMiele dealer.

For a delivery head of more than 1 m(up to a maximum of 1.8 m) a secondDuo-drain pump is available with thecorresponding conversion kit from theMiele Spare Parts Department or yourMiele dealer.

Electrical connection U.K.All electrical work should be carried outonly by a suitably qualified and compe-tent person, in strict accordance withnational and local safety regulations.

Ensure power is not supplied to the ap-pliance while installation work is beingcarried out.

The appliance is supplied with a mainscable with moulded plug for connectionto a 230-240V mains supply. The volt-age, rated load and fuse rating aregiven on the data plate. Please ensurethese match the household mains sup-ply.

Connection should be made via a fusedplug and suitable switched socketwhich is easily accessible after installa-tion.For extra safety it is advisable to installa residual current device (RCD), with atrip current of 30 mA (in accordancewith DIN VDE 0664, VDE 0100, section739).Do not connect via an extension lead.

Electrical connection U.K.Non-rewireable plugs BS 1363If this machine is fitted with anon-rewireable plug and the socket out-lets are not suitable for the plug sup-plied or if the existing plug needs to bereplaced by a new one, the old plug willneed to be cut off and an appropriateplug fitted. The fuse carrier and thefuse should be removed from the oldplug and disposed of.

The plug cut from the cable should thenbe disposed of and on no account beinserted into any socket elsewhere inthe house (electric shock hazard).

The fuse cover must be refitted whenchanging the fuse, and if the fuse coveris lost, the plug must not be used until asuitable replacement is obtained. Thecolour of the correct replacement coveris that of the coloured insert in the baseof the plug, or the colour that is em-bossed in words on the base of theplug (as applicable to the design ofplug fitted).

Replacement fuses should be ASTA ap-proved to BS 1362 and have the cor-rect rating. Replacement fuse coversmay be purchased from your local elec-trical supplier or Service agent.

ImportantThe wires in the mains lead are col-oured in accordance with the followingcode:

Green/yellow = earth

Blue = neutral

Brown = live

If the colours of the wires in the mainslead of this appliance do not corre-spond with the coloured markings iden-tifying the terminals of your plug, pro-ceed as follows:

^ The wire which is coloured green andyellow must be connected to the ter-minal in the plug which is markedwith the letter E or by the earth sym-bolz or coloured green, or greenand yellow.
