Politics (Comparison)

• They are not similar.• • They have imposed

different sets of laws though both seemed to have the same intentions and that is to remodel current Philippine government and promise independence.

Page 13: Midori Spark

Politics (Conclusion)

• The Americans wanted to control the Philippines by implementing laws, while the Japanese wanted control using brute force

• Most of the laws that they established was to have more power from us.

• As the Philippines were recovering from the Spanish regime, in creation of their new government, colonizers took advantage on giving the country “aid” in the form of promising laws and acts that falsely ensures freedom.

Page 14: Midori Spark

• Payne-Aldrich Act • Underwood-Simmons

Act • Homestead • Free Patent • Selling of Friar Lands• Infrastructure projects

like Baguio

Page 15: Midori Spark

• Black Market and buy and sell through selling of cable wires and electric wires to the japanese

• Philippine financial institutions were crippled, isolated and denied of hard currency

• Inflation due to lack of hard currency • Introdution of Mickey Mouse Money • High demand but there was no supply

of goods • Hoarding of basic commodities • Cotton and copra was assigned in the

Philippines to be planted

Page 16: Midori Spark

Economic (Comparison)

• With regards to the economics, it is evident that both are different. The Americans provided laws in relations to tarrifs, lands, imports, exports and this improved the economy of the Philippines while the Japanese used Philippine resources as much as they can and this caused caused the economy to decline.

Page 17: Midori Spark

Cultural (Conclusion)

• Both colonizers took advantage of our national resources.

• More products are offered to us but then we lost more than what we gained

• The motives of both colonizers can be seen clearly here though the American economic strategy can be considered as a cover for their initial plan to take advantage on exporting goods. The Japanese was clear in torturing the Filipinos by starving them.

Page 21: Midori Spark
