In order for us to process your Cosmetology/Hairstyling application, you must include a $205.00 non-refundable application fee. This should be a certified check or money order. We do not accept personal checks or cash. The check or money order should be made payable to MCVTS (Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools). Application Fees ($205) can be paid online at www.mcvts.net under the following tab Adult Education - Cosmetology, then click the Application/Registration Fee for Piscataway - Adult Cosmetology link.

You must also complete the enclosed Schedule of Payments form and return it with your application and money order.

ADULT COSMETOLOGY /HAIRSTYLING REQUIREMENTS

2021-2022

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

1. Complete an application2. Submit when applying:

a. Copy of high school diploma/GED (foreign diplomas and on-line GED's must have a valid translation, acceptable to

NJ State Board of Cosmetology/Hairstyling)b. Birth certificate

c. Two (2) proofs of county residency - tax bill, rent receipt or utility bill (no Post Office Boxes or letters from heads

of household will be accepted as proof of residency)d. Emergency information

3. Orientation interview

OBJECTIVE:

To obtain a state license by successfully completing the requirements of the Vocational School program and passing the NJ State Board of Cosmetology/Hairstyling examination.

ATTENDANCE:

Class hours are 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The school program is scheduled for 180 days. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND EVERYDAY. Hours are deducted for tardiness and leaving early. A minimum of 1,000 overall hours is required to be eligible for a state license. Students WILL BE

REQUIRED TO LEAVE the program if the hour requirement will not be met by the end of the program.

4 absences = WARNING

8 absences = PROBATIONARY ST A TUS 13 absences =TERMINATION FROM PROGRAM

Note: Hours lost for tardiness, etc. will be counted toward days absent.

l late = loss of 1 hour3 )ates = loss of 6 hours (1 absence)

STUDENTS MUST BE PREPARED FOR CLASS EVERYDAY. TOOLS, BOOKS, PROPER ATTIRE AND WILLINGNESS TO WORK EVERYDAY ARE ESSENTIAL TO BEING PREPARED. STUDENTS WILL BE SENT HOME AND HOURS

DEDUCTED, WHEN NOT PREPARED.

PROPER ATTIRE:

Uniforms are at the expense of the student.

All students are required to wear a black woven cotton uniform/scrubs. All students must wear good black leather sneakers, with rubber non-slip soles. Jeans, sweat pants, knit pants and leg warmers are unacceptable. Bare midriffs, t-shirts, hats, playshoes, canvas

sneakers and sandals are not permitted.

WILLINGNESS TO WORK:

Male and female students will be required to perfonn ALL SERVICES on each other. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Services include: facials, manicures, shampoo, set, haircut, water wave, mock shave, pedicures, mock re-touch, mock permanent wave and mock chemical relaxer (real, if requested), scalp manipulations, braids and chemical services. It is recommended that hair be a workable length (shoulder). Fingernails need to be a reasonable length. Safety is a concern.

Shop assignments and clinical appointments are approved/assigned by the instructor. REFUSAL OF ASSIGNMENT WILL

RESULT IN LOSS OF HOURS OR EXPULSION FROM PROGRAM.
