The very first family started out with a man and a woman named Adam and Eve. God created Adam first, but Adam was lonely. So, God created Eve.

When God first created Adam and Eve, he was very pleased with his creation. And this first family was very happy too. After all, they lived in paradise!

But it didn’t take long for them to become dysfunctional because Adam and Eve disobeyed God. When they did the one thing that God asked them not to do, they separated themselves from relationship with God. This also messed up Adam and Eve’s children and every family since that time. This disobedience is called sin. And because we all sin, every one of us lives separated from God.

The Lord God said, “It isn’t good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him.”

Everyone is tempted by something. Being tempted isn’t wrong, but the choices we make when we’re tempted can either be right or wrong. Jesus used God’s word to conquer temptations. You can do the same! Match the scripture on the right to the temptation on the left.

1. You’re on the bus to school in the morning and a guy twice your size makes a “Your Mamma” joke about you.

A. Gossip is no good. It causes hard feelings and comes between friends. (Proverbs 16:28)

2. You have to give a speech tomorrow in class. You’re so nervous, you think about ditching school.

B. Do not judge, or you too will be judged. (Matthew 7:1, NIV)

3. You trip on your way to the lunch table, and your sloppy-joe spills all over the popular girl. She starts calling you names and yelling at you about her designer sweater being ruined.

C. Losing your temper is foolish; ignoring an insult is smart. (Proverbs 12:16)

4. Your next-door neighbor is in high school and she’s pregnant. Some of the neighbors are calling her names and saying terrible things about her.

D. Christ gives me the strength to face anything. (Philippians 4:13)

5. A friend tells you he heard from a classmate that your new friend was in rehab for drugs. He doesn’t have any proof, he’s just repeating what he heard.

E. A kind answer soothes angry feelings, but harsh words stir them up. (Proverbs 15:1)

Memorize each of the scriptures listed above. Use these when you’re tempted to snap back at someone, or gossip, or when you find yourself in a similar situation. Read your Bible and write down scriptures that have special meaning to you and memorize them.

Defeat Temptation

“We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us. Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.” (James 1:14-15)

Although Jesus was dead and buried, the story would not be complete if Jesus had simply stayed in the grave. Jesus proved that he truly was the Son of God by actually rising from the dead just as he said he would.

Jesus died on Friday.

No one but God has power over death. And Jesus conquered death so that all who put their faith in him can also have eternal life.

Very early on Sunday morning, just as the sun was coming up, several of Jesus’ followers went to the tomb.

But when they looked, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away. And it was a huge stone!

They went in. But they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus, and they did not know what to think. Suddenly two men in shining white clothes stood beside them. The women were afraid and bowed to the ground. But the men said, “Don’t be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus from Nazareth, who was nailed to a cross. God has raised him to life, and he isn’t here.”
