MIDDLE EAST 2019
Digital transformation underpins most future strategies for economic development and diversification in the Middle East. According to the IDC, annual digital transformation initiatives in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa will surpass US$38 billion in 2020. Operators will be among the first in the world to roll out commercial 5G services and governmental national strategies, such as the UAE Vision 2021, Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the New Kuwait Vision 2035 are driving ambitious new projects. Internet of Things (IoT) applications will be in numerous Smart Cities across the region as governments look to diversify economies. The use of Artificial Intelligence is rapidly increasing and, according to a PwC study, it will contribute to around 13% of GDP in the UAE and Saudi Arabia by 2030.

5G is a key enabler of digital transformation. Middle Eastern countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait have some of the highest level of fibre roll out and mobile adoption in the world. According to a report by Analysys Mason, 5G will be worth US$8 billion to the telecoms industry in the Middle East by 2030. The technologies it will facilitate, such as IoT, are worth considerably more.
KEY MARKET DEVELOPMENTS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST
Etisalat defines SDN/NFV driven network transformation as “by far the most disruptive technology for telecom service providers” and a key part of their strategy because it will significantly transform the way services are delivered. The SDN market is predicted to hit a worth of US $88 bullion by 2024 and the increasing adoption of cloud services and IT convergence is a primary factor in market growth.

Andrew Grenville, CEO, ORIXCOM
It has the potential to put huge power into customers’
hands and allow them to be much more flexible and exercise more choice. It will drive huge network change and challenge the status quo of the older.
SD-WAN According to new research from Global Market Insights, SD-WAN will grow from just US$17 million in 2018 to US$17 billion in 2025. This will be driven by the increasing adoption of cloud-based applications and platforms, as flexible solutions allow remote users and devices to connect to the cloud across secure connections.
SD-WAN heralds the next generation of networking as
we witness a fundamental shift in WAN design. This is being driven by the widespread adoption of cloud applications, a continued need for more agile service provision and escalating demands on customer networks.
Tom Homer, MD EMEA, TELSTRA
MIDDLE EAST 2019
IOTThe number of IoT connections across the MENA region will triple between 2017 and 2025. IoT revenue will increase from US$1.1 billion to US$55 billion.
2025US$55 BILLION
2017US$1.1 BILLION
We will see the Internet of Things (IoT) play a role in the next phase of
transformation across the industry as it continues to further the development of future smart technologies. For them to become a reality, the network has to be more dynamic and intelligent in connecting, maintaining and optimising applications. The use of machine learning and application awareness in Software-Defined Networks (SDN) are going to become key differentiators in managing this aspect.Jerzy Szlosarek, CEO, EPSILON
