Madinatul Ilm Charitable Trust (MICT)INTRODUCTION: Madinatul Ilm charitable trust (MICT) continues to remain involved with a range of charitable

causes, from intervening directly in crisis stricken situations to supporting individuals in need such as students and

medically challenged individuals from poverty stricken home. As a non-profit private organization based in Rawalpindi,Pakistan, we disbursed Rupees 136,26,376.00 or roughly equivalent to U$142,000.00 during the six month period from

July to December 2012. As before, our main sponsor remains the UK based Lady Fatemah (AS) Charitable Trust, while

we are indebted to a number of individual donors too who continue to support our work. Going forward in the first half

of 2013, we plan to continue supporting the victims of floods in the southern parts of Pakistans Punjab province where

a large number of families remain in urgent need of help. This will be in continuation of our work in this area that we

have already done in the second half of 2012. At the same time, we plan to expand our work for poverty stricken

students so that each one of them can eventually embark on a successful career.

MICT distributed food packs financed by LFT to about 12 thousand people, ahead of the

Islamic month of Ramadan. This campaign was driven by a determined effort to reachsome of the most impoverished homes in parts of Pakistan, ahead of the holy monthdedicated to fasting and prayers. Our targeted areas included parts of the Potoharregion in northern Pakistan as well as poverty stricken villages surrounding Islamabad,the capital. As before, the distribution was preceded by a detailed survey to identify

households most in need of support such as those led by single mothers and the elderlywith few means of subsistence.

This was another unusual year for Pakistan in view of the devastating floods which hit the southern parts of the Punjab

province. Following this calamity, MICTs staff backed by a team of volunteers visited some of the worst calamity

stricken areas, notably in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan Districts to examine the scale of the crisis. Funded by LFT and

other individual donors, MICT has so far distributed emergency supplies to more than 19 thousand people, in need of

immediate help. The crisis is still far from over. MICT continues to closely monitor conditions in south Punjab with a

view to mobilizing further support for victims of the floods.

MICTs educational projects encompass all matters pertaining to

education. MICT has provided support for vocational as well as

formal education, regardless of age, gender, or location. During

the period under review, MICT raised approximately Rupees 675,000.00 to finance a three months academic camp in

Islamabad for students from remote parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan province. The purpose was to help prepare thesestudents to successfully enter professional colleges.This was in continuation of the first such summer camp in 2011

which led to the participants attaining an average between 85 per cent to 94 per cent grades. Both of these activities

were sponsored by LFT, to whom we remain grateful for their continuing support.

During the period under review, MICT reached out to some of Pakistans most vulnearnable

individuals in need of financial help to overcome medical challenges. Our areas of focus

remain needy patients seeking financial assistance for treatment which comes at an

UPCOMING PROJECTS

MICT has launched an urgent appeal to

raise Rupees five million for emergency

support to two thousand families

displaced by torrential rainfall and floods

in summer 2012.

In the aftermath of the earthquake of

2005, many of the victims are still

struggling to rebuild their lives. MICT has

identified nine such poverty stricken

families in the northern Kaghan valley to

be targeted under small scale

employment generation programs, enabling them to increase their incomes.

MICT intends to reach out to our donors for sponsoring a teachers training workshop that

will seek to improve the skills of teachers from Pakistans largely impoverished northernGilgit-Baltistan region.

MICT is working to expand its directory of students in need, to increase our support for

education.
