INSTRUCTIONS
The Bay Area Chorus is a community choir which promotes the love of choral music through performance and education. For 38 years we have awarded a scholarship to an area high school senior planning a major in music/vocal performance. This is our seventh year to award two $1,000 scholarships. We are thrilled that you are interested in pursuing a musical career and welcome your participation in our scholarship competition.
The Priscilla Ennis Bay Area Chorus High School Vocal Music Scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to major in music/vocal performance at an accredited university or college. Applicants shall be judged based upon their musical accomplishments and service to their choral department (20% weighting), and their audition performance (80% weighting). Verification of enrollment as a vocal music performance major will be necessary before the funds are disbursed to the winner’s educational institute of choice.
Eligibility: Applicants must be currently attending a high school in one of the following Houston area school districts: Clear Creek, Friendswood, Dickinson, Texas City, Pearland, La Porte, Deer Park, Pasadena, Galena Park, Alvin, Santa Fe, Channelview, and Goose Creek Independent School Districts.
Below is a detailed list of what we require for application, deadlines, and participation instructions.
1. Complete the attached Scholarship Application. Your choir director must sign the form before it is mailed in.
2. Have your choir director complete the Director’s Evaluation. The Director’s Evaluation must be postmarked no later than January 9, 2017. They can send it separately or include it with your Application.
3. Secure an official transcript from your school.4. Your application, transcript and evaluation m ust be postmarked no later than
Monday, January 9, 2017.5. Once your application is received and reviewed, you will be contacted by a scholarship
committee member to confirm your interest and answer any questions you may have about the audition.
6. A concert featuring scholarship applicants will be presented on Sunday February 5, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church 1511 El Dorado, Houston, TX 77062.
While an independent panel of three judges are evaluating the auditions and application information, the Bay Area Chorus of Greater Houston will perform. Scholarship winners will be announced at the conclusion of the performance. Tickets will be available for this event.

7. You must provide your own accompanist for your audition. You will perform two classical pieces of contrasting styles. The pieces will be of your choosing, and should be the ones that you feel best display your musical abilities. You do NOT need to dress formally for the auditions. Dresses are appropriate for women; men should wear a sport coat or suit and a tie.
8. The scholarship check will be mailed directly to the financial aid offices at the colleges the winners will attend in the fall of 2017 upon verification of enrollment.
