Non-Printing CharactersNon-Printing Characters

Tab characters: used to indent text. Line-Break Characters: Used to start a

new line within the same paragraph. Shift/Enter - A Line Break Character: This

is used to create a a paragraph of short lines, such as an address.

Nonbreaking Space: Use this to prevent two words from being divided between two lines. Ctrl/Shift/Space should be typed between the

first and second word to keep the two words together.

This is useful when typing someone’s name, or typing a date where you do not wish the parts to be separated.

Word Remembers, Even If You Word Remembers, Even If You Don’tDon’t

Word remembers the last three locations in the document where you edited or keyed text.

Press Shift/F5 to return the insertion point to these locations.

Repeat CommandRepeat Command You can repeat text elsewhere in a document by

using the Repeat Command. Press F4 Press Ctrl/Y Select Repeat from the Edit menu.

Type word to be repeated, and move cursor forward in the document.

At the location where the text is to be inserted, press F4, or one of other methods listed above to insert text.

When you select text, it appears as a highlighted block of text called a selection.

A selection may be: A Character A group of characters A word A sentence A paragraph An entire document.

Selection TechniquesSelection Techniques A Series of Characters: Click and drag oir click

one end of the series, hold down Shift, and click the other end.

A Word: Double-click the word. A Sentence: Press Ctrl and click anywhere in the

sentence. A Line of Text: Move the mouse to the outer

edges of the left margin, selection bar, and click the left mouse button.

If you use Word’s Property command to key a specific word for the subject of the document, you can later find that document easily.

When you select the Open Menu function, click in the Text or Property Box found in the lower right-hand corner of the Open command. Key the name of the document you are looking for, as

shown on the next screen.
