1. Cooperation: Madrid International Trademark Regime

Filings are based on two treaties, i.e. the Madrid Agreement dating from 1891 and the Madrid Protocol adopted 1989from 1891 and the Madrid Protocol adopted 1989.

� Allows similar as the PCT regime (electronic) filing of a of an Interna-tional Trademark application covering at maximum 78 countries pp g(including the European Community Trademark CTM), instead of filing separate national or regional TM applications

� Granting of the TMs remains under the control of the national or gregional TM offices ( = so-called national phase)

� Has substantial saving cost effects as well compared to filing of country-by-country applicationscountry by country applications

� Can be combined with other cost saving TM registrations schemeslike European Community Trademark (CTM) system

1. Cooperation: Industrial Design Registration

• The Hague System of international registrations of industrial designs is applicable among 55 countries party to the Hague Agreement administered by WIPO;

• This system gives the owner of an industrial design the possibility to have his design protected in several countries by simply filing one application with the I i l B f WIPO i l i h f f iInternational Bureau of WIPO, in one language, with one set of fees in one currency (Swiss Francs);
