� We need to be at the pulse of the WFSGI membership and their actual needs;

� We must not be shy to skip current projects and replace them by new ones if we can serve

PROJECT ONE:

To develop a uniform WFSGI security label/device as additional la er of protection for the global sporting goods ind str andlayer of protection for the global sporting goods industry andtrade and tool to combat counterfeits and identification mark for genuine sports products;

PROJECT TWO:

To offer a Web monitoring program for WFSGI members, which screens the orld ide eb and notifies the brand and rightsscreens the world wide web and notifies the brand and rightsowners on suspicious activities, dubious online transactions and the like to enable them to intervene efficiently and swiftly;

To make available for WFSGI members a best practicedoc ment retention and risk management program ith thedocument retention and risk management program with theobjective to improve risk management methods and policies(e.g. if exposed to litigation, in the event of investigationsconducted by public authorities, product recalls etc.);

1. COOPERATION WITH THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION (WIPO)

offers educative events for the WFSGI membership in the following areas:in the following areas:

1. Cooperation: Arbitration and Mediation Center:

• Established in 1994 as part of WIPO• Established in 1994 as part of WIPO

� Provides alternative dispute resolution (ADR) options for the time and cost effective resolution of intellectual property disputesa d cost e ect e eso ut o o te ectua p ope ty d sputesbetween private parties outside court:

1. Cooperation: Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT):

PCT is an international treaty, administered by WIPO, between more than 125 Paris Convention Countries;than 125 Paris Convention Countries;

� Allows patent protection for an invention by (electronically) filing a single “international patent application in a large number ofsingle international patent application in a large number ofcountries instead of filing separate national or regional patent applications

� Applicants gain time, since they do have additional 18 months between filing of international patent until the national

1. Cooperation: Madrid International Trademark Regime

Filings are based on two treaties, i.e. the Madrid Agreement dating from 1891 and the Madrid Protocol adopted 1989from 1891 and the Madrid Protocol adopted 1989.

� Allows similar as the PCT regime (electronic) filing of a of an Interna-tional Trademark application covering at maximum 78 countries pp g(including the European Community Trademark CTM), instead of filing separate national or regional TM applications

� Granting of the TMs remains under the control of the national or gregional TM offices ( = so-called national phase)

� Has substantial saving cost effects as well compared to filing of country-by-country applicationscountry by country applications

� Can be combined with other cost saving TM registrations schemeslike European Community Trademark (CTM) system



1. Cooperation: Industrial Design Registration

• The Hague System of international registrations of industrial designs is applicable among 55 countries party to the Hague Agreement administered by WIPO;

• This system gives the owner of an industrial design the possibility to have his design protected in several countries by simply filing one application with the I i l B f WIPO i l i h f f iInternational Bureau of WIPO, in one language, with one set of fees in one currency (Swiss Francs);

Th H S t i lifi tl l th b t t f th• The Hague System simplifies greatly also the subsequent management of theindustrial design, since it is possible to record subsequent changes or to renew the registration through a simple single procedural step with the International Bureau of WIPO.
