CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES

The updated MicroNet TMR’s 2-out-of-3 voting architecture and diagnostic coverage create a reliable system to meet current IEC61508 SIL-3 compliance standards.

• Existing CPU’s were a 1990 vintage - New CPU’s are current and have Ethernet capability.• Existing Kernel PSU’s were also 1990 vintage and needed to be replaced.• Existing two line display was obsolete.• Woodward GAP Software was upgraded to GAP3, customer can now monitor the functions.

This upgrade was considered for the following reasons:

• Software modifications were required to integrate additional products.

The Woodward MicroNet TMR 5009 FT is the best governing control system module available. It is easy to learn, reliable, locally supported and offers superior performance, as compared to the existing control system. The existing 040CPU was replaced with a state of the art M5200CPU to provide Ethernet capability.

The existing GAP software was updated to GAP3 and adapted to the new CPU. The MicroNet kernel PSU was replaced with the latest version compatible with the M5200 CPU. The existing MicroNet two-line display was replaced with a 17” HMI Operator Panel that consists of a touchscreen Operator Control Panel, with Woodward Control Assistant. A dedicated tuning App was written to allow tunables in the MicroNet TMR 5009 FT to be viewed and configured.

Plant operators were pleased to learn that control components offering a new, modern interface were readily available. An important customer requirement was for the commissioning to be completed in five (5) days. After the first upgrade system was successfully installed and operated, plant management awarded GCS upgrade projects for the additional steam turbines.
