=================MG ON THE ROAD=================West Branch - West Branch CCWe caught up with John Thibault, golf professional at West Branch CC http://www.westbranchcc.com/and also the owner of the club's restaurant, Fairway Bistro. Thibault is entering his third decade ofmanaging the course, after a short sojourn at EMU's Eagle Crest Resort. Having been around forsuch a long time, he has seen the ebb and flow of golfers in a robust and bust economy. While acountry club, West Branch, does allow public play and for many years enjoyed the golf traffic that thiseasy on easy off I-75 destination attracted.

A number of other golf courses sprang up in the past decade, namely The Dream and The Nightmare. Those two, West Branch and Green Briar formed a Golf West Branchhttp://golfwestbranch.com/courses.html destination that has done quite well, even in these toughtimes.

There are a number of golfer friendly rates available, you just have to poke around their websites.

===========================================================MICHIGAN GOLFER TELEVISION - NEW SANDY RIDGE GC VIDEO===========================================================This is our second video of Sandy Ridge GC, as our first show was about six months before weswitched cameras and went to our HD format. The videos have become an important tool in theclub's high tech marketing arsenal. Their use of Twitter, Facebook and videos of each hole, haveprovided what many in the business call a "sticky" website. Once you are there, you have a tendencyto hang around. We only have the You Tube video up now, but the 18 individual videos for each holewill be up later this month.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keqfuDcxZgI

=================DEVINE THOUGHTS=================WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER, EVER, QUESTION A DRUNK...I was shopping at the local supermarket where I selected:

A half-gallon of 2% milk A carton of eggs A quart of orange juice A head of lettuce A 2 lb. Can of coffee A 1 lb. Package of bacon

As I was unloading my items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk standing behind me watched as I placed the items in front of the cashier. While the cashier was ringing up thepurchases, the drunk calmly stated, "You must be single."

I was a bit startled by this proclamation, but I was intrigued by the derelict's intuition, since I indeedhad never found Mr. Right.

I looked at the six items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about my selections thatcould have tipped off the drunk to my marital status..

Curiosity getting the better of me, I said , "Yes you are correct . But how on earth did you knowthat?"

The drunk replied, "Cause you're ugly."

Thanks and a Tip of the Tam to Ken Devine for passing this gem on.

=================MINZEY'S MUSINGS=================A new young monk arrived at the monastery. He was assigned to help the other monks in copying theold canons and laws of the church byhand. He noticed, however, that all of the monks were copying from copies, not from the originalmanuscript. So the new monk went to thehead abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, itwould never be picked up. In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies. The head monk said, "We have been

Page 7: Michigan Golf News, July 9, 2010

copying from the copies for centuries, but youmake a good point, my son."

So he went down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscript wasarchived in a locked vault that hadn't beenopened for hundreds of years. Hours went by and nobody saw the old abbot.

The young monk became worried and went downstairs to look for him. He saw him banging his headagainst the wall, and wailing, "We forgotthe "R, we forgot the "R"! His forehead was all bloody and bruised and he was cryinguncontrollably.

The young monk asked the old abbot, "What's wrong, Father?"

With a choking voice, the old abbot replied, "THE WORD IS CELEBRATE."
