Michele Di ToroMichele Di Toro (1974 / Sant’Eusanio del Sangro, Italy) graduates in the “L. D’Annunzio” Conservatory of Pescara with the highest marks and special mention. Later he completes his studies at the École Normale de Musique “Alfred Cortot” in Paris, where he obtaines unanimously the diploma for piano composition and interpretation.
He has been awarded numerous prizes, among which the “F. Goulda Award“ for jazz pianists and a special credit at the “Martial Solal” International Competition in Paris, and he is a regular guest pianist of the “Mozartian Week” held every year in Chieti. Since 2014 he is also Artistic Director of the “New Municipal School of Music of the City of Montesilvano”.
Soon he is influenced by Afro-American musical styles that allow him to express himself in a natural and original way: Jazz and Ragtime of the great piano masters, but he is also strongly inspired by the musical sensitivity and the artistic improvisations of Keith Jarrett. His collaborations with festivals such as Umbria Jazz, Iseo Jazz and Jazz Festival in Santiago de Chile are well known.
His first recording work titled “Playing With Music” is realized with the extraordinary participation of the great guitarist Franco Cerri, with whom the pianist collaborates frequently. Michele attended also as piano player and composer in the recording of “The Pass of the Cat” produced by Abeat Records. In the recording work “Think Mozart Jazzin” for solo piano, which was produced by Crocetti Omar - Editore, the expression of jazz is always present without neglecting the use of stylistic techniques of contemporary music.
Michele plays in prestigious theaters, national and international venues and selected jazz clubs, he realized concerts in Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Finland, Poland - but also by Canada, Chile, Slovenia etc. and has collaborated with the Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
Although Michele Di Toro has a preference for solo piano performance, he is well known for his classical concerts with orchestra and often plays with his jazz trio named after him, with famous bass player Yuri Goloubev and great Marco Zanoli on drums.
