Most Impacted Area (MIA) of the SWUCA
• Partnership with the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Meets multiple goals required for funding:
• Environmental/Natural systems improvement • Water Quality • Water Supply
• Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) recommends this recharge alternative over others proposed in drinking water zones.

SHARP Pilot Project
• Significantly restricts future groundwater development within the SWUCA and prohibits new development in the MIA.
• Requires a plan to primarily utilize alternative water sources instead of a groundwater source.
• Requires water level improvement (environmental net benefit) to the MIA before any groundwater development can occur within the SWUCA.
Recharge well is located within the saltwater wedge.

Recharge will cause a mounding of water levels along the coast restoring natural groundwater flow gradients to Tampa Bay.

The Recharge water level mounding will allow for future groundwater withdrawals further inland within the SWUCA .

SHARP Pilot System Location
Recharge will enable Hillsborough County, and other local entities to eliminate over 50 MGD of
wastewater or 200 tons of annual nitrogen discharges to Tampa Bay
• During the wet months, reclaimed water would be beneficially recharged into the aquifer instead of disposed to waste through the surface water discharges.
• During dry months, 100% of reclaimed water is used in the Southern service area.
• In areas where the demands exceed reclaimed water flows during dry months, groundwater supply from SWUCA mitigation credits can supplement summer irrigation demands.
