ABORIGINAL KIMBERLEY STONE HEADSA rare group of Aboriginal Kimberley Stone Heads carved by the Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. This movement started in the late 1970’s and continued into the early 1980’s with thepatronage of the well known collector Lord McAlpine being a driving force. The imagery varies from realistic to what could be described as primitive natural interpretations of the human face. The heads are carved from sandstone and decorated using paints and natural ochres.
