From Dustin’s Desk…

Hello and welcome to our September edition of MICare Moments. Well after two wonderful weeks in beautiful New Zealand, it is nice to be back home in the warmth. I will never complain about how we never get a real winter ever again. It certainly doesn’t take long to get back into the swing of things though and before long, a holiday begins to feel like a distant memory. Late last month our fantastic new website went live and can be viewed at www.micare.org.au. Lately, I’ve been getting plenty of enquiries about how Netflix works. In short, Netflix is an online video streaming service. Content is delivered on demand, advertising free to watch when you want. Signing up is easy, you can cancel at any time as there are no lock-in contracts and Netflix offers 30 days free trial; after which, plans start at around $10.00 per month to watch on a single device in Standard Definition. If you want to watch on multiple devices simultaneously, you will need to upgrade to another plan that allows this. There are three quality options to choose from. These are Standard Definition, High Definition and Ultra High Definition. Standard Definition affords you a DVD quality viewing experience and for most this will suffice. A basic Standard Definition plan also has the advantages of consuming far less data than a higher definition plan and this is especially important if you have a moderate data allowance or have a slow internet connection. To access Netflix, you will require an internet connection with a generous data allowance. If you plan to use a mobile network connection, it is advisable to have a plan with at least 30GB data allowance. You will need to carefully monitor your data usage as there are additional charges for exceeding your monthly data allowance; which, if you watch a lot of Netflix, is easy to do. Netflix can be watched on virtually any device including desk top or laptop computer, smartphone, tablet or smart television. If you do not currently have a smart television, a google chrome cast is an excellent solution and can be purchased for around $50.00. A Chromecast plugs into the HDMI port on your television and once connected to your home network, enables you to easily stream a wide range of content including Netflix direct from your device to your television. Netflix is great value for money and offers access to thousands of tv shows, movies and documentaries. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can also download shows from Netflix to watch offline when an internet connection is unavailable, i.e. when travelling overseas or using in-flight mode on an aircraft. Best of all, this feature is already included with your Netflix plan at no additional cost. This is a very useful feature as you can now take your entertainment with you wherever you go and there is no need to pay for in-flight entertainment.

Linda’s Leisure's …. Welcome to Spring everyone! Hard to believe but winter on the Island has come and gone – certainly different to Melbourne ones Brrrr Our Christmas in July celebrations went off with a cracker. Woody and his accordion filled the air with familiar Christmas tunes as we sang along, enjoyed some special festive yummies and watched some Christmas humour. It was great to see some new people trying their bias at lawn bowls while others en-joyed a long awaited bingo session earlier this month, and at time of print we are looking forward to our trip to town for the ‘Seniors Expo’ Activities for September are as follows; Monday 3rd Bingo and Bowls – Consider whether you’d like to try lawn bowls Tuesday 11th Port Tour. We leave on the 8.30 ferry to meet our coach

on the mainland. Morning tea, guided tour and visiting the markets will fill our morning before enjoying lunch at The Ville.

Many thanks to Annie our president for arranging cover of all costs except lunch. You will need to pay for

lunch. Tuesday 18th Visit to Magnetic Island State School for morning tea,

and time with the students then lunch at a surprise location on the Island.

Tuesday 25th We join the RSL for DVA Health Week. Come and en-joy a guest speaker with morning tea and lunch is supplied.

Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 2nd October at the Centre The trip to town in October is on Wednesday 24th for ‘Morning Melodies’ at the Civic Theatre followed by shopping at Castletown. Places are limited so please speak to the office to book. To assist with catering and transport arrangements for Tuesday Club please con-tact our office by Monday morning the day prior. While we will make every effort to accommodate last minute bookings we may not be able to provide transport or lunch for late attendances.

Trust you are all well and taking care of each other. Looking forward to seeing you Blessings Linda Topics include Port Expansion Project, Channel Capacity Upgrade, environmental, supply chain and more. Some pictures dating back how the Port has progressed.

KEN’Z KORNER……. Hello and welcome to September 2018. As I write this Ken is still recovering but feeling a lot better and should be returning to work very soon! We look forward to having him back on board! Cooking classes will still remain to be ‘advised’ Art Class returns with Ken but we would like to say thank you to Averil for filling in and also thank you to the art students for being so understanding and supportive. The next ‘Men's Dining Club’ will be the 13th September’18 being held at ‘Mamma Roma’s, then we have the 27th September’18 at ‘Noodies’. ‘Ladies Morning Teas’ have various eateries and a couple of new eateries to try, it will be an exciting month. Cinema Club will be showing the following movies with a special twist at the end, make sure you bring in your favourite movie:) Movies for the month of September: Friday 7th ‘Life Is Beautiful’ Friday 14th ‘The Diving Bell & the Butterfly’ Friday 21st ‘Driving Lessons’ Friday 24th ’Bring In Your Favourite Movie’ CAIRNS HOLIDAY UPDATE! The tour operator has given us dates and prices for the client holiday. Date is October 15th- 19th and cost is Twin/double $670.00 per person and $950.00 single. This still includes all tours and all meals expect 3 lunches. As the cost has increased MI Care is going to pay for the transport. This price has been based on the original number of clients going which was 31. The numbers have now dropped because of prior commitments clients have and the weather being hot and humid in Cairns. We are asking clients if they are still interested in going in October? So please let Monique know if you are still interested. If we get the numbers, the trip will go ahead. If we do not get the numbers, we will postpone until the middle of 2019. If you require a refund, please see Monique. Sincere apologies for any inconveniences.

24th September Bring In Your Favourite Movie & Vote The Movie To Watch!
