From Dustin’s Desk… Hello and welcome to our June edition of MICare moments. Since late last year, I have been periodically writing about the winding up of the Queensland Community Care Program (QCCP) on 30th June 2019 and the
roll out of the Queensland Community Support Scheme (QCSS), commencing on 1st July 2019. The QCCP is the existing program under which our disability services for people who are under the age of 65 are
funded. This program will be replaced by the QCSS, which is intended to support the care needs of people who are ineligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). In December 2018, the Queensland
Government announced a tender, seeking providers to facilitate the QCSS. I am pleased to announce that MICare was successful in securing a contract to deliver QCSS services to the Magnetic Island Community. I
have included the Queensland Government’s key messages below, to highlight the respective futures of the two programs.
Existing Queensland Community Care (QCC) program: • The existing QCC program and all current service agreements will
cease on 30 June 2019 • A new Queensland Community Support Scheme (QCSS) will operate
from 1 July 2019 • During 2018/19 the NDIS will become available for all locations in
Queensland • Participants who transition to the NDIS will continue to receive
supports and in many instances additional services as part of their NDIS plan
• Funding for NDIS eligible participants will need to follow them into the NDIS as is the case with other state funded Disability Support services
• It is imperative that all QCC service users who are NDIS eligible transition to NDIS during 2018/19 as the funding to cover their ongoing support will have been transferred from 1 July 2019

From Dustin’s Desk Cont….
New Queensland Community support Scheme (QCSS) • 1 July 2019 the new Queensland Community Support Scheme
(QCSS) • Provision of low-intensity, generally time limited support services
that maintain and promote independence, capacity, and quality of life • Target support for people whose capacity for independence is
impacted by, low level disability, chronic health or mental health • Two high level funded service types to support service users: In-
home Supports and Community Connection Supports. Greater capacity to wrap flexible support around individual service user needs
• New QCSS funding is subject to a tendering process • Providers who successfully tender for the new QCSS will need to
commit to support current non NDIS eligible QCC service users who need to transition to the new QCSS
• Providers who have been unsuccessful or did not tender will be asked to work with the new QCSS providers to assist the transition of service users.
What does this mean for you? • New and existing service users who are receiving supports under the
QCCP must test their eligibility for the NDIS by contacting the NDIA on 1800 800 110. You must provide MICare with written notification of your ineligibility for the NDIS, to receive services under the new QCSS from 1st July 2019.
MICare would like to say a big thank you for the generosity within our community for providing us with donations for our Tuesday Club Raffles!

Linda’s Leisure's …. Hello everyone, I trust you are enjoying our lovely Autumn Island weather.
Do you know what a paraprosdokian is? Here’s a few to get you thinking! • Ever stop to think . . . . and forget to start again? • If I had a dollar for every girl that found me unattractive, they’d
eventually find me attractive. • It’s ironic that the colors red, white and blue stand for freedom . . . .
until they’re flashing behind you. • Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity • Hospitality is the art of making guests feel like they’re at home when
you wish they were • Women spend more time wondering what men are thinking than
men spend thinking (present company excepted) • He who laughs last thinks slowest • I was going to give him a nasty look, but he already had one. • If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you. • Sometimes I wake up grumpy; other times I let her sleep. • Change is inevitable except from a vending machine Got the idea? Maybe you could write a few of your own. Let us know!!

KEN’Z KORNER……. Almost half of the year has evaporated to somewhere, can anyone tell me where it’s gone? It seems so surreal to think that Christmas 2018, is as far away as Christmas 2019. With the coming of Winter, the humidity and those hot days seem to be melting away. So, get out your woollies and enjoy the fresh coolness about to descend upon us. Some great films are to be viewed this month including The Full Monty, and Chocolat, just to name two (please see details in the centre page of this publication to see all the details. The Art Class will be delving into revision, and then at the end of the month we are going on a trip around the Island to see the local talent, incorporating Peter Lawsons Gallery and the Art Space in Nelly Bay, also there is a small Gallery now in Picnic Bay to which we will venture. I just want to take this opportunity to congratulate all my lovely Art Students and the progress that each Student is making. Ladies Morning Tea will be all over the Island as usual. If you are reading this and would like to attend any of the groups, you will be graciously accepted and shown the way. You do need to be a financial member for $10 per year or a client with MICare. Let the office know, and you will be picked up and delivered home safe and sound. The beginning of the Month is the Client Holiday to Cairns, and it is shaping up to be a wonderful trip. That’s all from me for yet another Month. Remember to be the adventure, look after the person next to you, after yourself, and Phoenix says Woof!! Ken.

MINUTE WITH A MEMBER
Our next Member with a Minute is Graham Holden ! There are five fun facts all though one isn't true. 1. Graham was a volunteer with Lifeline
when it was in Picnic Bay? 2. Graham’s first MICare holiday was at
the Atherton Tablelands? 3. When Graham was younger he played
basketball? 4. Graham is a triplet? 5. Graham was a volunteer with MICare
when Maureen Rosenhart was the Co-ordinator?
