Mica and E/Fact

The application will determine the luminaire class type:

E/Fact walk-over luminaires positioned with restricted access to pedestrians and cyclists will have a glass cover contact temperature <100°C. This contact temperature is reduced to <40°C where the luminaires are located in more accessible positions.

Mica drive-over luminaires will have a glass cover contact temperature of <80°C to protect vehicle rubber tyres from damage in all conditions.

Where severe weather conditions require the use of snowploughs and de-icing equipment the above ground height of the luminaires has been reduced to a minimum.

The luminaires are now smaller by depth and dimension, with stainless steel and painted aluminium cover rings and surrounds.

The range is powered by low wattage energy efficient light sources, including LED technology with electronic ballasts.

Thorn recessed luminaires have been refreshed to comply with the new surface contact temperature standard IEC 60598-2-13

E/Fact (walk-over)

E/Fact walk-over and Mica drive-over recessed luminaires are defined by their distinctive and individual application, technical and design characteristics

The units offer the designer effective and efficient lighting, with the advantage of concealed equipment and public safety. They can be used to illuminate building façades, sculpture and foliage or to provide route guidance. Internal adjustments and asymmetric beams offer offset (angled) light direction. Frosted glass, dome, windows and attachments can give a screened appearance to limit awarness of the light source.

Considering obtrusive lightLight is most effective when we are hardly aware of it. E/Fact and Mica with precise beam control and thoughtful on site application will help to prevent obtrusive light.

Luminaires can be positioned close to the subject to be lit, i.e. illuminate foliage from directly underneath.For building façades, position the luminaires close to the building and use angled lighting to distribute all of the output onto the facade, not into the sky.For marking out pathways, use low wattage light sources with frosted glass, domes or better still, consider using directional ‘windows’ to direct the light output near to the horizontal.Where relevant, aim the equipment accurately.The limitation of obtrusive light is also helped by using the minimum quantity of luminaires. In many installations, surprisingly little light is required to produce a dramatic effect. The actual amount will vary depending on ambient light levels, therefore, lighting levels are needed before a successful lighting design can be produced.The advantage of the E/Fact and Mica luminaires is that because the light source is effectively concealed, the effect on the lit subject is what you see. The appeal of the lit subject is not marred by bright sources intruding into the visual space.

For the Slim versions, the product is pre-wired.For outdoor applications, 30cm drainage gravel or any equivalent drainage system must be used beneath the housing to ensure water evacuation. The recessed box can be embedded in asphalt with good drainage once the temperature of the asphalt is approximately 80°C.Luminaire must be operated for 45 minutes without its front glass to avoid moisture building-up inside the housing.In accordance to the norm EN60598-2-13, the maximum static load is 1000kg.Glow wire is 750°C.Ceiling or wall installation:Due to clips and safety cable accessories (to be ordered separately), all E/Fact versions can be installed in ceiling.
