WHAT IS THE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION (MPO)
1. The MPO is an organization created by the Federal government to help ensure the smart and effective investment of limited public transportation dollars
2. Any urban area with more than 50,000 residents must have an MPO3. MPOs are responsible for conducting the transportation planning process
for the metropolitan areas4. The transportation planning process is:
• Assisted by the Federal government• Administered by the State• Locally driven by the MPO

1. The TIP is a 5-year program that prioritizes transportation improvement projects for federal, state, and local funding.
2. The TIP is a ‘living’ document, meaning that it needs to stay current and may be amended as needed.
3. Identifies funding levels by source and type.4. The TIP Development Committee includes representatives from the
MPO’s transportation partners.

FEDERAL CERTIFICATION

Every four (4) years a Federal Certification Team (FHWA and FTA), has to certify that Miami-Dade MPO complies with all federal requirements. Failure to pass this certification review process, could jeopardizes the receipt of federal transportation funds for Miami-Dade County. The certification review process includes the following areas of interest:
In addition, the FDOT and the Miami-Dade MPO conduct a yearly Joint Standard Certification Process. Based on this process, FDOT recommends that the Miami-Dade MPO be certified.
