THE PROGRAMFNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) program provides core horticulture training designed for persons working in the horticulture industry or those studying to enter the field. It is the industry’s only standard for measuring horticulture knowledge on everything from plant and pest identification to landscape management.
The FCHP promotes professionalism among horticulture professionals, including nursery, greenhouse, landscape and retail garden center employees. The FCHP program integrates principles of the Florida Friendly Green Industry Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) program and has been endorsed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?Topics include safety and business issues, laws, ordinances; sales and voluntary compliance issues; plant biology and classifications; fertilizer, water,light, temperatures; plant growth, soil, pH and plant problems; diseases, weeds, insects; landscape design, turf, foliage; irrigation, landscape management; turf maintenance and pruning. THE FCHP EXAMCandidates must pass a comprehensive four-part online written exam to demonstrate knowledge about plant identification, disease and insect control, plant biology and landscape management. The exam is a 3-hour written test and each section must be passed with a minimum 70% in order to earn the FCHP certification.• PLANT ID• HORTICULTURAL PRACTICES • SAFETY• GENERAL HORTICULTURE (OPEN BOOK)
FEESThe exam fee is $85 for FNGLA members and $150 for non-members and includes one exam attempt only. Any exam section that is not completed successfully may be retaken, oncethe applicant applies and pays a retest fee.
