All-State & Girls State Wrestling Championships
February 22, 2019
Dear All-State and Girls State Wrestlers, Coaches, Parents, Guardians and Friends,
Welcome to the 26th Annual MIAA All-State Wrestling Tournament and the Inaugural MIAA Girls
State Championship. We are thr illed to have St. John’s Preparatory School host this year’s
tournament. Special thanks are extended to Principal, Keith Crowley, Athletic Director, Jim O’Leary and
Head Wrestling Coach, Manny Costa for their assistance in making this great facility available to the MIAA
wrestling community. They have graciously opened the doors to their state of the art facility and we sincerely
hope you enjoy the extraordinary wrestling on display throughout the weekend.
All student-athletes who are here today should be extremely proud of their accomplishments this season.
There is no question that each of you has dedicated this winter to the sport of wrestling, all while balancing
your academics and personal life. All of the hard work you, your teammates and coaches have put in
throughout the season has paid off. The success you enjoyed during the last two weeks at the MIAA
sponsored Sectional and Divisional State Tournaments has put you in a position to represent your school,
family and community in the most elite tournament the state has to offer.
To the athletes competing in the Inaugural MIAA Girls State Championships – you have earned your way to
this stage. Take advantage of the opportunity in front of you and relish in the fact that this group of athletes is
a part of history. You are the only group of athletes who can say they participated in the FIRST MIAA Girls
State Championship!
At the conclusion of the tournament we will crown fourteen (14) All-State champions and as many as ten (10)
Girls State champions. In addition, seven All-State wrestlers in each weight class will qualify to represent
Massachusetts at the New England Interscholastic Wrestling Championships which will be held next Friday
and Saturday in Rhode Island. We know that you will represent Massachusetts with good sportsmanship and
honor!
Each wrestler should take a moment to thank their parents and guardians for supporting them through all of
the trials and tribulations of a wrestling season. The sacrifice and commitment they have made should be
applauded by all.
Congratulations again to all student-athletes competing this weekend. I genuinely hope that everyone will
enjoy the MIAA All-State and Girls State Wrestling Tournaments at this tremendous facility.
Sincerely from the Tournament Directors and the MIAA,
Phil Napolitano
