A school year must be at least ,-- days as prescribed by law# a certain proposal thatnext school year ,-1./,-10# classes would start on August instead of June which means that theusual (hristmasbrea"ofstudentswill alsonowbecometheSemestral brea"forthecollegestudents of Silliman University. $ther top Universities in the Philippines has already approvethat next school year their classes would start on August. Such school is the University of thePhilippines which all of their campus throughout the nation would start their class on Auguststartingnext school year this wouldallowthemtosynchroni&edtheir calendars withtheircounterparts in Southeast Asia. Another school that is considering that their class would start onAugust is the Ateneo de %anila University. UP President Alfredo Pascual said that1uninterruptedsemestral systemwill reducetransportcost forstudentswhogohomefortheholidays2 his type of schedule will be an advantage because students usually ta"e a semestralbrea" late $ctober until early 3ovember and then go another brea" for the (hristmas and 3ew4ear holidays.
