Mrs Hayman is currently on leave, so during this time, the role of Principal will be shared between Mrs Meredith and myself, Mrs Sellick.
I hope all of our mums and grandmums had a wonderful day last Sunday. I spoke to quite a few mothers of infants children who visited their child’s classroom for an early Mother’s Day experience of sharing and pampering. These mothers were very happy and grateful. I also saw many hours of love and care going into gifts to take home for mum across the school. Hopefully all of our Mum’s felt loved!
Thank you to all of the kind community members who donated toys and dolls clothes for our students to play with in the lunch and recess breaks. The students are really enjoying the different things available for them to play with.
This week is Food Allergy Awareness Week and it is a timely reminder for us to be mindful of the food we consume and how it affects those around us. Did you know that food allergies are becoming in-creasingly common? In fact, 1 in 10 babies born in Australia today will develop a food allergy and some will be at risk of a life threatening allergic reaction. This is why we ask students to NOT bring nuts or nut products to school and we strongly discourage the sharing of food - even birthday cake! It is up to all of us to help allergy sufferers stay safe.
Sponsor sheets for our Walkathon have gone home today. Please talk to your children about safety when collecting donations and always go with them and supervise them if they are collecting from strangers. Karen Sellick
Principal’s Report
Stranger Danger Have regular discussions with your children about ways to help keep them safe. Last week one of our students reported been approached by a white van on the way home from school up near the top shops and the man asked her if she wanted a lift home. You may want to use the following website to help educate your children about these issues. www.safety4kids.com.au/safety-zone_stranger-danger Year 5 Opportunity Class Placement for 2018 Online applications have now closed. All students with an active application seeking Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2018 will be required to take the Opportunity Class Placement Test on Wednesday 26th July, 2017.
Wakakiri Request: White Business Shirts Needed! We are still looking for clean white business shirts for kids aged 10-12 (long-sleeved) and would be very grateful if you could donate any to the school. Please bring donations to the front office.
Premiers Reading Challenge 2017 This challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition, but rather a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
CBA School Banking We would like to acknowledge the amazing volunteer work of the ladies who run MFPS banking pro-gram. Thank you ladies!!! Nathalie Sleiman, School Banking Specialist for the Macarthur Area, will be attending Parent Café this week to talk about the Lighthouse Program. “Lighthouse is a range of activity-based modules, designed to provide practical support for parents to develop and encourage positive attitudes to financial literacy. It also offers you an opportunity to have future needs based conversations about CBA services, in a relevant and relaxed forum.” Did you see this in the Sunday Paper? About 1 in 5 primary students in Australia are currently very overweight. Whilst it is encouraging to see some improvements in the last five years, it is still worrying that only 5% of children eat enough vegeta-bles. Miss Chesterton and Mrs Baxter have recently secured a $2000 grant for our school to assist our students through the Live Life Well@School program to learn more about healthier eating. This initi-ative will include such things as a class recipe book, new healthy food ideas for the canteen and fruit and vege tasting in Fruit and Vege week later this term. They are also planning a colour run at our Walkathon in Week 9.
Girls Touch Football Carnival These girls represented The Fields Zone at the Girls Touch Football Carnival on Monday the 1st May. The team placed 6th overall in the carnival. The girls displayed fantastic skill and sportsmanship and represented our school and The Fields Zone admirably and this is to be congratulated. Student names are: Emma Buchan, Fontagne Tufuga, Victoria Loi Galualli and Aliyah Milford.
Cross Country Carnival
Thank you to Mrs Baxter for organising the Cross Country Carnival last week. It was a great day! Thank you to all of the students for their great participation, and to the teachers and parents for their support on the day.
