Returning for a second year, the One Northside (ONS) Crowd-funding Challenge has launched on the community-focused online crowdfunding site, ioby. Backed by the Buhl Foundation, and in part-nership with the One Northside initiative, Northsiders are invited to raise funds for their civic-minded projects through ioby’s platform to receive dollar-for-dollar matching of funds up to $10,000. ioby supports projects that take place in the leader’s neighbor-hood of residence or employment that will benefit the community, lo-cal environment, or both. Project leaders who launch their initiatives in this year’s challenge will also have an opportunity to learn how to find donors, volunteers, and other resources through one-on-one technical assistance and grassroot fundraising training sessions. The first ONS Crowdfunding Challenge in 2018 saw 27 suc-cessfully funded projects raise a collective $202,433 between commu-nity-raised and matching funds based on ioby’s website. Exactly half of the projects funded had goals of $5,000 or more with 4 top fundrais-ers reaching the match-limit for a total of $20,000. Current 2019 projects listed on ioby.org/northside include Allegheny City Society’s Monument to Charles Avery and the Avery Institute, as well as, L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministries’s ALIVE 2019: Help for the Homeless event that are raising funds for their community projects. Interested groups and individuals can share fundraising ideas for the ONS Crowdfunding Challenge through the end of 2019 or until matching funds run out by visiting www.ioby.org
