Several milestones will occur during Dr. Rose’s presidency. In June, 2018, Metro will celebrate the 25 th anniversary of the club charter. In April, 2018, Metro will celebrate the 15 th anniversary of its Partner in Education relationship with the Columbia Public Schools’ Title I program. Tom began by outlining the year ahead. He indicated it would be a year of fun, but we would also be making a difference. He presented the 2017-18 Presidential Citation requirements and the club budget for the year. He noted the club was already in the process of pursuing a District Simplified Grant to assist with the purchase of books for the Columbia Public Schools Title I students. President Tom gave a modified classification talk which gave members an opportunity to learn more about him. He has three older brothers and one younger sister, and he spoke of the importance his Catholic faith has had in his life and education. He noted he has great respect for diversity, and he values the opinions of all. Tom received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri in 1988. He is married to Lisa, and they have three daughters, Teresa, Maria and Nicole. He is also the proud grandfather to a grandson. Tom is the co-owner and managing partner of Rolling Hills Veterinary Hospital. They have two locations in Columbia, and he enjoys helping dogs and cats with their medical needs. In his spare time, Tom devotes his efforts to helping others. He is the President/Treasurer of Cradle to Career, he is the Treasurer of the Columbia Public Schools Foundation, and he is a board member of First Chance for Children. He is a past member of the Columbia Public Schools Board of Education, and he is also three hours away from completing his Masters Degree in Public Health. Rotary membership dues for the 2017-18 year are now payable. Please contact Laura Kogut timely. Metro’s partner on several of the ReachOut Metro programs has been the Family Impact Center (FIC). Members are invited to support the FIC Hot Salsa Night fundraiser on July 12 at the Country Club of Missouri. Details are on page 3 of this newsletter.

The 4th annual Kick-off Cook-off will be held August 26 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center. More information is on page 4 of this newsletter.

Metro’s Vocational Service Committee is asking members to support Boone County’s 10th Annual Back to School Health Fair. Please contact Mandy Schick if you would like to assist. Page 5 of this newsletter lists supplies that are needed.

Members were reminded to log into www.ReachOutMetro.com and sign up for volunteering/mentoring opportunities. President Tom introduced the Rotary Global Rewards program to members.

President Tom announced that he is close to introducing the individual who will serve as our Sergeant-at-Arms for the year.

In the meantime, President Tom served this role today, and he encouraged all members not wearing their respective Rotary pin(s) to contribute to Metro’s charities.

2017 Columbia Rotary Clubs Kick-Off Cook-Off

August 26 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center

Delicious, tailgate-style food will be provided by 30 of Columbia's tastiest restaurants. We are seeking 30 amazing local businesses to partner with the restaurants. We are asking each business partner to contribute $175 to participate. Each team will be provided a 10'X10' space which includes an 8' table. Each business may select its own restaurant to pair with or ask the Event Committee to do the pairing. We hope you will be part of this wonderful event and become a team member. Proceeds will be used by the Columbia Rotary Clubs for humanitarian service which includes financial support for the following: local civic and service organizations working with youth, education, veterans and families; and The Rotary Foundation which funds international projects involving safe drinking water, maternal and child health, promotion of global peace and the global effort to eradicate polio. Funds will be raised by participant entry fees and ticket sales. However, additional sponsorship opportunities exist for you to promote your business while supporting this event even more!
