Rugby Union There is a Welsh national rugby team. Every year the team takes part in the Six Nations Championship. The team takes part in other international competitions too. In 1999, the Rugby World Cup was held in the Cardiff Millennium Stadium. Football Wales has its own football league. The league started in 1992. Some of the Welsh teams play in the English football league too. Cardiff City Football Club is famous. They are in the English league first division. Cricket In the summer, cricket is a popular sport. The Glamorgan County Cricket Club started in 1888. This club won the English County Championships three times. Coasteering Coasteering is a popular sport today. Coasteering was invented in Wales. The people, called ‘coasteerers’, have to move around the rocky coast. They can’t use boats, surfboards or ropes!
