Phishing/Spam Website on International Conference on Emergency Medicine

Just a reminder about the improper use of the ‘ICEM’ name. An organisation known as ‘World Academy of Science Engineering and Technology’ (WASET) continues to promote false conferences. The site lists these meetings along with hundreds of other international conferences not related to emergency medicine, on their website.

Despite many attempts to contact WASET, we have had no response from this organisation and do not be-lieve these are legitimate conferences. We confirm that these conferences are not related to IFEM, and invite you to share this with your members. https://www.waset.org/conference/2022/07/paris/ICEMhttps://www.waset.org/conference/2022/10/dubai/ICEMhttps://www.waset.org/conference/2022/06/san-francisco/ICEMhttp://iuit.org/conference/2022/12/bangkok/ICEM/call-for-papers

Expressions of interest are also invited for members interested in joining:

Quality Special Interest GroupThe Quality Sub-Committee of ACEM (Australasian College for Emergency Medicine) is keen to develop international contacts and hopefully form a Special Interest Group within IFEM. Our aims at the present are modest - to make contact, develop relationships, share what we have done and what we plan to do in the Quality Improvement / Patient Safety arena at a national level, and lastly, and most importantly, share resources with other countries, especially those with less developed Emergency Medicine. I think it best at present not to limit membership but to strive to have a wide range of countries involved.

If you are interested, please get in touch with me at [email protected].

Categorisation of EM Websites Task force. This Group had been established to develop a list of links to emergency medicine Websites for the IFEM Website, which would be categorised and rated. We are looking for a lead for the group and also members, to develop the list but also update it and maintain it in the long term.

Accreditation/Assessment of EM Systems Task force. This group is looking at developing a document outlining specific minimum criteria for Emergency Medicine systems/hospitals that will act as a road-map for excellence. It would present difference systems and look at different ED Category rating schemes.

IFEM Website ReviewIFEM has commenced its review of the Website and comments and feedback are invited on what members would like from the new site. Members who wish to participate as content reviewers are also invited.

Interested members can contact me in the first instance at [email protected] with a short paragraph about their interest and brief background.

Establishment of EM as a specialty in Brazil

Brazilian Emergency Medicine is at one of its best moments. The struggles, which began far back in 1992 with the creation of the “first structured discipline of clinical emergencies in Brazil”, gave way to successive victories that have led to its official recognition by the Brazilian Medical Association, the Federal Council of Medicine and the National Medical Residency Commission as the newest medical specialty in Brazil.

September 16, 2015 is now part of Brazilian medicine history as the date of recognition of a struggle for respect, dignity and justice.

For those of us who are living this moment, we recognize the greatness achieved, but we don’t expect time to stop. With the recognition of the medical specialty, we wish that further progress will provide quality care for emergencies in Brazil.

Emergency physicians, as medical professionals who work in emergency medicine are called, will certainly remember an unrivaled, tireless and determined figure as a symbol of this achievement: Frederico Carlos de Sousa Arnaud, the father of Brazilian Emergency.

Believing that dreaming is worthwhile, and the fact that his dreams were realized, have made him the reference in Brazil, when it comes to emergency medicine. Never, not even in moments of extreme anguish, did the word desist enter his thoughts.

A man ahead of his time, a visionary.

Incredibly dedicated, he sought with strength, courage and a Panglossian optimism to overcome the many adversities in his path.

It was a dream, an ideal, often far away. However, for dreamers such as Dr. Fred there is no impossible.

Emergency Medicine in Brazil will never be an orphan, since it has amongst its emergency physicians, many faithful representatives all in search of improvements in, and better conditions for, emergencies in Brazil, es-pecially Dr. Fred Arnaud.

Emergency Medicine, love forever.

World Sepsis Day, 13 September, is an initiative of the Global Sepsis Alliance and its founding members, all of whom are non-profit organizations.

The Global Sepsis Alliance is a non-profit organization supporting the efforts of over 1 million caregivers in more than 70 countries as they seek to better understand and combat what many experts believe to be the leading cause of death worldwide: sepsis. The GSA has rallied the Global Sepsis Community to elevate public, philanthropic and governmental awareness, understanding and support of sepsis and to accelerate collaboration among researchers, clinicians, associated working groups and those dedicated to supporting them.

With our campaign we are educating medical professionals, informing policymakers, and create awareness among the general public.

The members of the world federations and other professional organizations that support the WSD come from more than 70 countries, including IFEM.
