From the Vicar’s Desk...Dearly beloved in Christ,

We had a blessed Parish Family Conference atGlorious Promised Land on 19th and 20th of last month.More than 180 members from 70 families attended theconference. It was a very remarkable event since weconducted such fellowship for the first time as a parish .Itwas an enriching experience since we had special sessionsfor parents, young couples, youth and children. I take thisopportunity to thank all who participated, and especiallythe office bearers and the programme committee formaking this conference a grant success.

The theme selected for the conference was Celebrationof Life. Life comes from God. Human beings are createdby God to share the life that was given by God. Weunderstand Life as the image of God in which we are allcreated. We reflect God’s image as love, patience,forgiveness, kindness and faithfulness (Gal.5:22). We alsoreflect God’s image in our relationships. The celebrationof life begins when we reflect God’s image inrelationships. The best place to celebrate life in its fullnessis family- between parents and children, and amongspouses. If we are not able to experience genuinerelationships then we lose life. Restoring genuinerelationships within families and within our parish shouldbe our aim as we continue our faith journey as a parish. Ihope that the thoughts that we received from theConference may help us to move in that right direction.

The parish convention meetings and the observanceof family Sunday are going to be held on October. I urgeyou all to prepare and pray for the gospel meetings whichin turn would help us to discern God’s intension for ourlives. We are also preparing to celebrate anotherChristmas. The birth of Jesus Christ as the savior of theworld changed the whole course of history. God in Hiseternal love had redeemed the sinful humanity from sinand death, and offers new birth and eternal life for all thosewho accept Jesus Christ as their savior. May ourcelebrations help us to renew our commitment to bechildren of God and to exhibit the fruits of the Holy Spiritin our lives.

Parish Family ConFerenCe 2015A ten-thousand mile journey begins with the first step

The first family conference of the Bangalore East Marthoma Churchwas held at Glorious Promised Land, a beautiful camp site withnature at its best, on 19th and 20th of September 2015. Over 75families participated. Together, we took advantage of this uniqueopportunity to meet and get to know little more and to learn andpick up new insights that can help improve the lives of children,young couple, youths and adults. The theme of the conferencewas “Celebration of life – family, youth and children”.

Around 180 members left the church on the 19th morning by twobuses and many in their own cars. We reached The GloriousPromised land by 10.30 a.m. The conference inaugural sessionstarted at 11.15 am followed by ice breaking through couple ofgroup games. After lunch we were divided into four groups,parents, young couples, youths and children.Rev. Dr. Jacob Cherian, Dr. P.C. Thomas, Mr. Philip Cherian andteam and Mr. Victor Hosea and team lead the three sessions.

Children were excited about the two days programs with lot ofsongs and actions. The adults were challenged by the mainmessages, and they found out that if there is an inter-relationalproblem, it is not the problem of an individual, but a problem inthe system (We need to understand family as a system.). To makethe life a celebration we need to identify this problem and rectifyit.   Young couples explored together what it means to “seek firstthe K ingdom of God,” which gives a solid foundation formeaningful life leading to celebration. The young people whoattended the  sessions had a wonderful  time with  their  teamleaders which encouraged them to be set apart from the culturetoday.

Saturday evening most of us went for a trekking to a nearby hillwhere we had a picturesque view of the Nandhi Hills and nature

at its purest form. For manychildren it was a real first timeexperience. Sunday morningstarted with Holy Communionand the celebrant was Rev. Dr.Jacob Cherian. Theprogramme came to a closewith the concluding sessionwhere representatives of eachgroup shared their experience.The Vicar Rev. Dr. Alex Thomasin his concluding remarksrequested all the participantsto take active part in all thechurch activities making ourparish a vibrant parish. In hisaddress Rev. Dr. JacobCherian appreciated theparish for initiating the familyconference and specificallyappreciated the team work ofall concerned. The absence ofRev. Liju John and family dueto his illness was felt by all ofus.

All together it was ameaningful conference andthe hospitality of GloriousPromised Land was at its best.
