    Home-based businessbylaw to be reviewed

At tomorrows regular meeting, CityCouncil will be reviewing the proposedhome-based business regulations in thedraft Zoning Bylaw, and an item regulat-ing assembly in a private residence.

This review comes out of the incidenton Parker Dr. with on-street parking forA&M Tandem Massage. The home-based

business has since been issued a fine forusing more floor space than permitted in

the bylaw & using more on-site & on-streetparking than allowed for in the bylaw. Ithas also been ordered to cease & desist.

But other home-based business ownersare worried that some, though not all, are

being targeted for non-compliance withbylaw regulations which they considerunfair and overly restrictive such as noemployees allowed, no structural changescan be made to a home, and no delivery ofgoods to a home-based business. Many ofthese restrictions are more narrow than

bylaws related to home owners. Theyreworried that a crack-down on restrictiveregulations could mean the shutting downof businesses that contribute to the health& vitality of this community.

    Public input sought

on hwy safety issuesStarting in November, BCers will havea say on various highway safety issues, outof which will come recommendations forspeed-limit adjustments to longer sectionsof rural highway between communities, improving vehicle flow and preventingwildlife-related collisions. Forums will beheld in Kamloops, Chilliwack, Nanaimo,Prince George, Dawson Crk, Vancouver,Kelowna & Cranbrook, with additionalcommunities added as necessary.

Speed-limit review: public input willbe sought on which highway corridorsshould be considered.

Slower vehicles review: public inputwill be sought on what is considered aslow vehicle and corridors of concern (i.e.in the left lane, recreational vehicles, whentowing, etc.) which reduce the efficiency ofthe hwy and can cause driver frustration.

Wildlife-corridor review: Public inputwill be sought on corridors of concern &areas where warnings could be enhanced.

Recommendations are due to be pre-sented in spring 2014.
