I have been taking yoga with Nadine ofA&M Tandem Massage & More at 2052 ParkerDr. for over 3 years now, always looking for-ward to our weekly classes to help with mylifelong wellness plan & restoration of innerpeace. Our family has also enjoyed their mas-sage services.

They are one of many great wellness serv-ices that are offered in Merritt, many of them

being home-based businesses due to the costs

associated with renting a storefront, etc. To-tally understandable when these businessesdo not operate a 9-to-5 type business.

A&M Tandem Massage & More relocated toMerritt from White Rock, 5 yrs ago. They likedthe small town and chose to open their home-

based business here, starting from scratch. They checked with the City & bylaw officer atthat time, she recommended that Parker Dr.was an area of home-based businesses andthey were welcomed there, and felt so. Theydid everything required by the City and upuntil a few months ago everything was fine.Clients were enjoying the peace and serenityof yoga, massage clients were also loving thecare they were receiving. Yoga happens up to4 times a week, a couple hours per day, plusmassage services during the week with 1 per-son at a time or a couple.

Some yoga participants walk to and fromyoga, many living in the Bench area. Otherspark in A&M Tandem Massage and Mores

driveway, or out front of their home. The peacefulness of this home-based busi-ness has been interrupted by the unfoundedcomplaint of a neighbour (with his drivewayat the opposite end ofA&M Tandem Massage& Mores driveway), that he cannot see whenhe backs out of his driveway. So he has anissue with people participating in this peace-ful environment because they may park infront of this home-based business and he willhave difficulty backing out.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!! You are seri-ously kidding right???? We have so many is-sues going on in the world and you have tocall bylaw services because you have trouble

backing out of your driveway. I drive past2052 Parker Dr. regularly at various times tosee if this complaint is for real. Never have Iseen a problem with parking in front of thishome-based business. Nor have the majorityof residents along Parker Dr.

Drive by any neighbourhood in our city

and you will find many, many homes withmultiple vehicles parked in their driveways orout front of their home. Perhaps they arehome-based businesses, perhaps they are not.

Resident only parking signs were installed infront of this home-based business and sur-rounding homes but not the entire Parker Dr.(seems like targeting one home-based busi-ness???) Many Parker Dr. residents were out-raged to see some of these signs go up on theirstreet with no consultation, nor any info onwhat Resident only parking actually means. After6 days, all these signs were all removed. I won-der what that cost was to the taxpayer????

Bylaw services and City Administrationcontinue to go after this home-based business. They are not allowed to have what the CityAdministration calls an assembly of vehiclesat their home. Apparently, an assembly of ve-hicles can apply to many things, including aTupperware party. How many of us, have peo-ple over, host parties, meetings, would this be

considered an assembly of vehicles? Is thisreally an issue we need to be worrying about??I feel Bylaw and City Administration are tryingto force some home-based businesses down-town regardless if that is not their choice or theright decision. Perhaps our bylaws pertainingto home-based businesses need to be updatedand these owners need to be consulted fortheir input. They are providing valuable serv-ices to Merritt and forcing them elsewhere mayprove to be their demise.

I realize we have bylaws in place for reasons, but I also believe we were given common sensefor a reason. Perhaps, Bylaw and City Administration need to speak with ALL Parker Dr. resi-dents to see if this home-based business in question is indeed causing parking issues on theirstreet, as the I have trouble backing out of my driveway neighbour states.

Come on Merritt, lets deal with the real issues we have within our city limits and treat allhome-based businesses fairly and with common sense.

And I say to the complaining neighbour: Perhaps you should try yoga or massage. Heck,Ill even offer to buy you a yoga mat or pay for you to have a massage so you too can enjoy theservices this valuable local home-based business has to offer, NAMASTE. Patty Beers
