Merit Quick Start Guide Overview As a manager, you may award a regular merits and one-time merits to your employees. Awarding a merit requires several steps to be completed. This quick start guide outlines the various steps you may take to award a merit. Detailed instructions for each action are described in the Compensation User Guide. Steps to Award a Merit Steps are listed below that need to be completed to award a merit. The steps should be completed in accordance with applicable policies. If an employee receives additional pay such as maximum security pay and/or language interpreter pay, the additional pay must be removed to be eligible for a regular merit. Overview

As a manager, you may award a regular merits and one-time merits to your employees. Awarding a merit requires several steps to be completed. This quick start guide outlines the various steps you may take to award a merit. Detailed instructions for each action are described in the Compensation User Guide.

Steps to Award a Merit

Steps are listed below that need to be completed to award a merit. The steps should be completed in accordance with applicable policies.If an employee receives additional pay such as maximum security pay and/or language interpreter pay, the additional pay must be removed to be eligible for a regular merit. After the merit has been approved, the additional pay should be added again if the employee is eligible.

NOTE: This step applies to regular merits only. Additional pay does not need to be removed to award a one-time merit.

NOTE: If the employee receives both maximum security pay and language interpreter pay, whichever was added to the employee’s pay last should be removed first. After the first request is approved, the manager should submit a second request to remove the other type of additional pay. Once the second request is approved, the manager can continue with the merit request.
