Merinla Odu

Merinla (14) One cannot fight with eggun, for one will die. This speaks of eggun being stern and or immovable in your blessings and if you fight that which they require of you they will bring about your demise. This speaks a warning of not only placating and appeasing your eggun but to avoid spiritual warfare and fighting with elders. One would be suggested that if you are fighting with someone you would both give a weapon from both your hands to eggun so that the fighting would end. **Also one would suggest Misas are important, since egungun medicums are not prevalent in Cuba and or the Americas. This speaks of a fight between Orunmila and Osayin as to who had the stronger medicine and or knowledge of. Osayin loses due to arrogance and under estimating the knowledge and patience of Orunmila, it is believed in this story he lost an eye, leg and arm. (this varies from region and tradition, as some say it was a battle with Shango and or other male orisa) Orisa suggest time away in this sign, spiritual reflection and meditation. Retreat, a journey of sorts to change ones perspective. *One ebbo may be to feed the Orisa 3 times, once before the journey, one during, and one when you come back. (My notes suggest this method, I would assume that an olorisa would bring their orisa with them however this may not be possible due to circumstance, culture, and region) This speaks of needing to receive Ase of Osayin, baths of omiero and or even drinking of such. Proverb “Sacrifice is stronger than medicine.” One should avoid at all cost any taboos given in Awofaka or Ita Orisa.
