A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Hi All, An NDIS Update Our National Investment in the NDIS continues to be a major topic of debate. The most recent being the decision by Government not to increase the Medicare levy but to pay for the scheme from general revenues. This has raised concerns about what might happen to the scheme if and when the economy faces a downturn. Meanwhile, we continue to face many challenges with difficulties in accessing plans, insufficient funding in plans and the very costly work that is involved in preparation for plan reviews. I recall the image of the NDIS jumbo jet, with people hanging off all around as the plane lumbers into the air not yet built! At the time we laughed but now we are in the thick of transition, it is not a joke. We had been hopeful that after several years of piloting, the NDIS rollout for us would be supported with streamlined administrative processes and certainty. This has not been the case! The reality has not changed! There is a great deal still required to implement plans, with several lost somewhere in the complex systems of the NDIA, there are incorrect bookings which have to be reworked and we are also at the beginning of second year planning processes. If these are the difficulties Mercy Connect is facing, I can only imagine how difficult the uncertainty must be for families and participants. Subscribe Past Issues RSS Translate

CONGRATULATIONS ERINA

Last Monday 16th April Mercy Connect participant Erina alongside 5 team mates from the Ovens and Murray team made their way to Adelaide to

compete in the Special Olympics 2018

The opening ceremony was held at the Titanium Security Arena in Findon Adelaide where Erina and the local team had the opportunity to walk into

the stadium to the cheers of their supporters

This was the first time attending the Special Olympics for Erina where she competed in Bocce and came home with not 1 but 3 bronze medals

My favourite part of the Olympics was winning the medals and walking along the beach in Adelaide Erina said excitedly

The games were held from the 16th - 20th April and included over 1000 athletes in 11 different sports Just like the Olympics and Commonwealth

games the Special Olympics is run every 4 years It is an opportunity for athletes with an intellectual disability from all over Australia to demonstrate

their skills and sportsmanship at the games

The 2022 games will be held right here on the border in AlburyWodonga Erina cant wait to represent in Bocce in her home town and see all of us

there supporting the Ovens and Murray team

Here at Mercy Connect Erina is a keen participant in many programs including the Art crew and cooking in the Bottlebrush Cafe

Everyone at Mercy Connect wishes to congratulate Erina on a great achievement at the Special Olympics We are very proud of her and hope she

enjoyed the experience of her first Olympics

A note from Erina
