MAGNIFICENT MERCY OAKSThe majestic oak trees of the South and our State in particular are synonymous with our culture and the beauty our beloved ancestral land. This particular species of tree is a symbol of strength, stability, and steadfastness - three pillars on which our parish is built and strives to provide our community. Every year during the Advent season, Our Lady of Mercy wraps the magnificent oaks on our own campus with twinkling bright lights, reminding the community that Jesus is the Light of the World and that each of us is called to be a light as well.

We invite you to join in on our Festival of Lights by sponsoring one the 17 magnificent oaks on our campus. The sponsorship of an oak tree during the Advent and Christmas Seasons is a beautiful way to remember a cherished family member who has passed. Sponsored trees will be acknowledged with a sign near your tree. If you are interested in sponsoring a tree, please contact Ms. Ana Froelich at [email protected] or call the church office at 926-1883.

“We are the light of the world, may our light shine before all...”

Memorial GiftsAt the death of a loved one, many choose in lieu of flowers to encourage friends and family to make a donation to a special charity or cause. Our Lady of Mercy has nourished the spiritual life of so many parishioners and those throughout the Diocese who come here. A Memorial Gift to our Traditions for Tomorrow Building Campaign is a wonderful way to acknowledge the lives of our beloved dead with a gift of loving generosity to the church that has been such a spiritual home. Ms. Deanie Smith can discuss ways for you to remember your loved one. Consider adding a planned gift in your last will and testament to remember Our Lady of Mercy.

PARISH LIFEST. VINCENT DE PAUL OLOM CONFERENCEOur St. Vincent de Paul Conference has completed another year—its fiscal year ended September 30—and it’s been a busy one. First, in fulfillment of our mission to provide emergency help to our less fortunate neighbors, during the past year our members made 367 home visits helping 814 people. These visits were made possible only through the generosity of our parishioners and allowed our members to provide food when the cupboard was bare, keep the lights on so children could do their homework, provide rental assistance, and even help some families avoid the trauma of an eviction.

All of this was possible because of the very generous support we have received from parishioners throughout the year. We thank you and look forward to your continued support.

ACTS RETREATAn ACTS Retreat is a parish-based event which offers parishioners an opportunity to experience the love of Jesus Christ. The Retreat begins on a Thursday evening and ends with Sunday Mass in the parish. While utilizing prayer, service, and teaching, the ACTS Retreat meets people where they are in their spiritual journey and invites them to experience God in a manner that is both personal and communal.

Throughout the weekend, participants are invited to prayerfully consider how they can respond to God’s love by spiritually surrendering to Jesus in order to have new life with Him. This invitation is extended through the pillars of the apostolate: Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service.

This experience is an opportunity for spiritual renewal and the making of many friends. Fr. Cleo invites you to prayerfully consider joining a group of men/women from our parish to make this spiritual retreat at The Solomon Center in Loranger, Louisiana. The cost of the retreat is $255 per double occupancy room for Mercy parishioners and $330 for non-parishioners.Men’s Retreat - departs Our Lady of Mercy on Thursday, March 14th and returns for noon Mass at Mercy on Sunday, March 17th.For more information, contact: Mr. Kelly Walker [email protected] or Mr. Jason Romero [email protected] (225) 926-1883

When We Minister to Those He Seeks, We Serve the Lord Jesus

To illustrate the substance of real compassion, Jesus indicated we serve Him when we give to meet the needs of others. “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me”(Mt 25:35-36). Faithful parishioners from our own parish, Our Lady of Mercy, identify with the opportunity to serve Jesus by ministering to others, making the Bishop’s Annual Appeal a priority every year. A single parish blesses others throughout the Diocese of Baton Rouge through such an effort.

Please Follow the Shepherd’s Lead, seek to serve those in need of God’s blessing, and give to support ministries the BAA helps to fund. To encourage your participation, Bishop Duca recently mailed you a packet with helpful information concerning this year’s campaign. You’ll read about another year of record generosity, and discover new ways to bless our Catholic community going forward. Please be a part of that effort by choosing to contribute to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal today.

If you didn’t receive a packet, please ask for that information. Simply call the Office of Stewardship, (225) 336-8790, or send an email message, [email protected]. As you pray about your personal involvement, you will learn how you and your fellow parishioners enrich others’ lives through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Visit www.baabr.org for additional stories and encouraging details..

God bless Bishop Duca and the faithful of the Diocese of Baton Rouge!

    GARDEN OF PEACE

MAUSOLEUM NICHES FOR THE REVERENT INTERMENT OF CREMAINS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-CONSTRUCTION PURCHASE.

Parishioners will remember that during the period of Master Planning for our future, there was a strong interest in a Columbarium Garden for the interment of cremains. We have now begun offering columbarium spaces for pre-construction sale.

Columbarium spaces will be priced at $5000 for simple cremain boxes for two people and at $7500 for columbarium spaces for Urns for two people. Please know that persons purchasing these spaces in the beautiful Columbarium garden are also helping our parish with this donation. You may call Ms. Deanie Smith to make your personal appointment.

You may take a virtual tour of the proposed Columbarium Garden on the Mercy website (www.olomchurch.com). Design of the project has been done by parishioner, Pete Newton Landscaping and the contractor selected is Arkel Construction.

Proposed estimated completion of the construction is approximately one year from now.
