RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the formal recognition of the skills and knowledge that a person has regardless of how or where these skills have been attained, that is, through formal or informal training, work experience, voluntary work or life experience. The evidence provided for RPL must address the most current list of units of competencies for the relevant qualification. To be able to grant RPL the assessor must be confident that the applicant is currently competent against all elements of competency within the unit and must ensure that submitted evidence is authentic, valid, reliable, current and sufficient. Your evidence may take a variety of forms and could include: Certificates and/or qualifications, testimonials from clients and previous work samples and/or substantiated Curriculum Vitae (CV). MGIT confirms that all students, potential or actual of all offered accredited courses are provided with full recognition of their current skills and knowledge. A RPL will result in exemptions and it can be determined by applying from your agent or MGIT.

There is an non-refundable RPL application payable for assessing your RPL application, regardless of the application outcome. Fees per unit will determine once your RPL applications has been approved.

How does the RPL process work? Evidence that is presented by the applicant is matched to the performance criteria contained within the elements for that unit(s) applied for.

The evidence is assessed using the following criteria:

* Is the prior learning relevant to the course and address the performance criteria specified?

* Is the knowledge and skill current?

* Is it authentic and can be verified?

* Is the knowledge and skill appropriate to the level of the unit?

Please contact [email protected] for further RPL information.

OTHER METHODS OF DETERMINING RPL ARE: • Credit Transfer is an arrangement to recognise the

credit of formal education that has been previously achieved. Credit transfer arrangements are also known as Advanced Standing or Exemptions. You will need to provide a copy of the qualification and a list of the units achieved.

• Overseas Equivalence is an arrangement to give former recognition to an individual who has completed a course or qualification overseas. The Australian Skills Recognition Information can assist this process. Exemptions will only be granted on the basis of fully documented formal qualification. The granting of exemptions may reduce the total course price and require a reduction in course duration. This will necessitate a new Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (ECOE) if granted prior to the course commencement and notification to Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) via

• (Provider Registration and International Students Management System) PRISMS.
