Mephedrone, commonly referred to as “meow meow” is a new-fangled drug. It was only first synthesized in 2003 by an underground chemist working pseudonymously under the name “Kinetic”.

• Meow Meow gives a similar high to Ecstasy. Because of this, it is considered by some to be “the new ecstasy”.

• Due to Meow Meow’s short history, not much is known regarding its long-term effects.

• It is thought to cause impotence/erectile dysfunction.

• Meow Meow has been the alleged cause of several deaths

• A long time ‘user’ of 18 months reported severe hallucinations and had to be reported to a psychiatric ward.

• A teenage boy experienced such strong hallucinations that he ripped off his scrotum.

• Meow Meow used to be able to purchase legally online, labeled as “plant food”. It has since been made unavailable via the internet.

• By far most prevalent in the UK.• Became the 4th most popular “street drug” in the UK in

2009, behind only marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy.• The drug is yet to make a substantial arrival in the United

States. Currently, it is legal in every state not named North Dakota.

• Due to its similarity to Ecstasy, meow meow has been wrongly marketed/sold and seized as ecstasy.

• Quickly becoming ‘illegalized’ all throughout the world.

Medicinal Use• Due to its underground synthesis, there was

not much purpose in creating the drug other than to offer a new, legal “club drug”.

• Meow Meow is a white substance, often available as crystals, powder, and pills.

• Has a distinct strong odor: “fishy smell”
