• POPULATION 1.7 Billion • PREVALENCE OF PSYCHIATRIC DISORDER 62/1000 population• SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS Point Prevalence – 10-20%/1000 population. Incidence - 35/100,000 population.
• NUROSIS AND PSYCHOSOMATIC DISORDRES
Point prevalence – 4-5%• PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
Point prevalence - 2-3%• MENTAL RETARDATION

• Psychiatric beds in India - 26,000
MAN POWER AVAILABLE IN INDIA
• Psychiatrist - 4000 ie,1 psychiatrist for 1000 mentally ill clients.
• Psychiatric social workers – 2000.
• Psychiatric nurses - 5000-7000.
• PG centers - Nearly 60.
