What causes someone to develop a mental disorder?
Experts still don’t know for sure, but mental disorders are
thought to develop in 2 different ways:
Functional cause of mental disorders
The disorder develops in response to a life event.
a. The function of a person’s thinking/ emotions changes in response to a life experience.
b. Often, the life experience that triggers the disorder is a traumatic one.
No apparent chemical or physical
change occurs in the brain.
