It’s the start of DePaul University Men’s Soccer’s 28thNCAA college season and we believe we have a qualityteam. Goals for this season include having our third winning season in a row; making a third BIG EAST Final Four appearance; and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.

We have a very challenging 2009 schedule and play nine teams that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament (Indiana, Drake, Northwestern, UC Irvine, Notre Dame, Louisville, Loyola, USF, and St. John’s).

We return seven senior field players who have been instrumental in the Program’s first ever back-to-back winning seasons. Our seniors were also very instrumental in our success in the classroom and in 2008- 2009, our team had the highest GPA in the BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Conference.

Our seniors represent: forward - Steffen Vroom the 2008 DePaul Offensive Player of the Year and Soccer America’s National Player of the Week. Steffen is also a First Team BIG EAST Preseason Selection.

Patrick Hopkins is our captain and was the 2008 DePaul Defensive Player of the Year. We return midfielder - Peter Sterbenz, a 2008 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection. The other four seniors are represented by midfielder - Mark Plotkin, right back - Nathan Feltz, versatile player - Erich Reichmann, and forward – Alex Mangan returns from a season-ending injury last year.

Our returning juniors are represented by midfielders Willy Lara and Andre Gutierrez.

Our coaching staff which includes: Adam Tinkham (fifth season), Graduate Assistant: Hobie Hare (first season), Volunteer Coach: Chris Snitko (first season) and me (ninth season) look forward to seeing you at many of our seven games at Wish Field against: Green Bay, Buffalo, Notre Dame, Marquette, Louisville, Rutgers, and Syracuse.

Recently, we defeated Northwestern University—the ninth ranked team in the nation; and believe more quality wins and performances will continue.

Your attendance is always greatly appreciated at the Alumni Game which will be in connec-tion with our Senior Day and is scheduled for Saturday morning, October 24th, prior to our game with Syracuse.

Thanks again for your continued support. Your contributions have made a positive impact on the lives of your fellow Blue Demons. Your recent contributions have updated our video software editing system and added additional heart rate monitors to our training tools.

We hope you will continue to join in the progress and growth of building the DePaul University Men’s Soccer Program. Regards,Craig Blazer
