Simon On The Course...What's next? Newsletter Men's Section Spring 2018 - a message from the Captain Note from the Professionals Handicaps & Rules Changes We are entering a period of change leading to the introduction of the World Handicapping System and Slope in 2020. Combined with rule changes announced by the R&A coming into effect in 2019 interesting times are ahead. January 2018 saw a change in handicap limits, with 6 categories of handicaps for men and ladies, the new category 6 being for handicaps 37 to 54. Players of all handicaps can enter weekday and weekend medal and stableford competitions, but there may be lower handicap limits set by the committee for Trophy and knockout competitions so please check the entry forms. Welcome to the Spring edition of the Mens sections newsletter, going forward we hope this will be a quarterly publication. As you’ll all be aware we have had a damp and cold Winter, with golf in short supply, so hopefully as we are in March we can expect the weather and the Course conditions to continue to improve, especially as Easter is early this Year. I have been a member here for 20 odd years and seen a lot of changes, Wellow has always been a “Club” not just a “Golf Course”, and we need to try and re discover the “Club” vibe. Part of the reason for this Newsletter is to try keep as many as our members as possible informed and involved with the upcoming events, which are organised by the Club, (not just the Golfing ones ) because without the members involvement these competitions , will sadly be canceled , as with the “Nations Cup” which has not been played for the last two years due to lack of numbers. We have moved it back to it’s original spot in November to see if we can return it to what was a widely anticipated and very enjoyable event !..... Look out for the Entry forms in the Club Lobby. My thanks also to Sue Wren, Graham Sims, and Dave Board & the junior team, for their ongoing commitment to their respective “sections” I look forward to seeing a few new faces and a lot of “old” faces over the coming months and take this opportunity to wish you all an enjoyable and successful 2018. All the very best for the golfing year, Neil & Danny Simon and his team have been quietly going about their business doing what is necessary over the wetter months to not only protect the course but working on projects to improve the golfing experience. So whats next?... Ryedown 3. -Already one of the most memorable holes. The plan is to cut back the hanging trees to the ditch on the left of the hole and thin out many of the larger tree to the right of the green which will create a very impressive arena type hole. Ryedown 6 tee - This will see a dramatic change, with many larger trees behind the tee being felled to let air and light through to the tee and the possibility of a hole extension. Ryedown 4 - possible tidying up of the tree line on the left which will make this hole one of the best looking out there. CLUBV1 club system installed - We have updated our club system to the new CLUB V1 which we will use for almost everything in the club, from Membership to Competitions. The procedure is almost exactly the same, only the interface is slightly different. The changes are very minimal and if you have any problems, please don't hesitate to ask the Pros or the office for help.
