SEASON PREVIEWThe Grove City College men’s tennis team will

have a decidedly different look this season as sev-eral new names will appear in the lineup in 2010.

Although graduation claimed three starters,Grove City still returns several standouts as theWolverines pursue their 20th consecutive Presi-dents’ Athletic Conference championship.

A trio of seniors will lead the Wolverines thisspring. Senior Peter Davis returns for his fourthyear in the starting lineup for Grove City.

A three-year letterman, Davis has played sec-ond and third singles extensively in his career. Hewill likely be at or near the top of the lineup againin 2010.

Like Davis, senior Bill Derocha is a three-yearletterman. Derocha has won conference titles inboth singles and doubles play in his career. He willlook to be a full-time lineup fixture again this year.

Versatile senior Blake Fortier is back for hisfourth season after seeing duty as a reserve dur-ing each of his first three seasons.

Fortier, who went undefeated as a sophomoreand as a junior, will battle for a regular spot in theWolverine lineup.

Senior Shaun Mills returns to the program af-ter a two-year hiatus. Mills made an immediate im-pact as a freshman in 2007 and will likely see ac-tion in both the singles and doubles lineups.

Ricky Garrett is the team’s lone junior and willbe counted on heavily in both singles and doublesaction in 2010.

He formed a formidable doubles team withDavis while leading the Wolverines in total victo-ries as a sophomore. Garrett could hold down thetop spot in the singles lineup this year.

A pair of sophomores also return this year.Scott Yanak is a returning letterman who brokeinto the lineup as a rookie. Yanak will look to earna full-time spot in both singles and doubles playthis year. Steve Harrison saw limited action in 2009and will also battle for time.

Senior Bill Derocha will compete for full-timespots in both singles and doubles play thisyear. He is a three-year letterman.

The Wolverines will also be bolstered by sev-eral newcomers this year.

Head coach Joe Walters has again assembled astrong schedule for the Wolverines in 2010. Thecampaign begins February 19 at Penn StateBehrend.

Matches with Allegheny, Carnegie Mellon, CaseWestern, Hope and Oberlin highlight the non-con-ference schedule. Grove City will begin conferenceplay March 23 against visiting Waynesburg.

ABOUT THE PACFounded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic Con-

ference continues its mission of promoting inter-collegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic ex-cellence.

Comprised of 10 select private institutions -Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva Col-lege, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, ThielCollege, Thomas More College, Washington &Jefferson College, Waynesburg University andWestminster College - the PAC remains a uniqueorganization in this day of high-pressure intercol-legiate athletics.

With academics at the center of each member’sphilosophy, the PAC is built on the principle thatan athletic program is a part of college life, but notan entity in itself.

During the 2005-06 academic year, ChathamCollege, Geneva College and Saint Vincent Collegeall joined the PAC. Chatham competed for PACchampionships for the first time during the 2007-

08 academic year. Geneva and Saint Vincent areplaying full conference schedules during their timeas provisional members of NCAA Division III.

The PAC annually crowns champions in 19sports. All-Conference status is awarded in all 19sports. Head coaches select all-league squads forall team sports, while in individual sports such ascross country and tennis, all-PAC accolades arebased upon performances at the conference cham-pionships.

The PAC annually awards its men’s andwomen’s All-Sports Trophies to the schools whichperform best across the board in conference com-petition. Washington & Jefferson won the Men’sAll-Sports Trophy in 2008-09 while Westminsterwon the Women’s All-Sports Trophy.
