Arkad is 13 and lives with his mother and 4 siblings in a small mud hut inthe Lakita community. Arkad looks younger than his age because therewere complications when he was born. Arkad is currently in Class 5 andloves to play soccer. Arkad and his siblings sleep on the bare ground intheir tiny mud hut. His mother is always challenged to feed her familyand provide school uniforms for the children.

Sigfrid is 8. He lives at Villa 16 Star of Hope Orphanage. His mother diedof Aids when he was a baby and the authorities brought him to live atVilla 16. Sigfrid is a very loving boy. He is very attached to Mama Krista,who runs Villa 16. Sigfrid is in Standard 1; he loves to read, dance andplay games with the other children at the Orphanage.

Because of land dis-pute with relatives, their house and clothes were burnedand their family was displaced. Mghanga is the head boyat Mwatate, he loves soccer while William loves to draw.

Susan is 14 years old and lives in the Lakita community. Her family livesin a small mud hut. Susan and her seven siblings all sleep on the bareground in the tiny kitchen. Her father is a poor peasant farmer. His chal-lenge is to feed his large family and provide school uniforms for his chil-dren. Susan loves to read and was excited to receive some books.

Hassan and his brother Bakari live at Mwatate Home andRescue Centre. Hassan is 11 and Bakari is 10. Theirparents died and the boys lived alone for a long whileuntil they were rescued and brought to Mwatate Home.Hassan is in Class 5 and Bakari is in Class 3.The brothers love playing soccer, karate and movies.
