Phoebe and her brothers Mwazala and Harri-son live at Villa 16 Star of Hope Orphanage.Phoebe is 6, Mwazala is 13 and Harrison is 8years old. Their parents died of AIDS. Phoebeloves to sing and dance, Mwazala loves to buildmud houses while Harrison loves to read.

Agnes and her sister Vanessa live at Mwatate Home andRescue Centre because their mother is dead. Agnes is11 and cannot speak because she is tongue tied. She isin Class 1 and likes to listen to stories. Vanessa is 9 andis in Class 3, she likes to read and draw.

Arkad is 13 and lives with his mother and 4 siblings in a small mud hut inthe Lakita community. Arkad looks younger than his age because therewere complications when he was born. Arkad is currently in Class 5 andloves to play soccer. Arkad and his siblings sleep on the bare ground intheir tiny mud hut. His mother is always challenged to feed her familyand provide school uniforms for the children.

Sigfrid is 8. He lives at Villa 16 Star of Hope Orphanage. His mother diedof Aids when he was a baby and the authorities brought him to live atVilla 16. Sigfrid is a very loving boy. He is very attached to Mama Krista,who runs Villa 16. Sigfrid is in Standard 1; he loves to read, dance andplay games with the other children at the Orphanage.

Because of land dis-pute with relatives, their house and clothes were burnedand their family was displaced. Mghanga is the head boyat Mwatate, he loves soccer while William loves to draw.

Susan is 14 years old and lives in the Lakita community. Her family livesin a small mud hut. Susan and her seven siblings all sleep on the bareground in the tiny kitchen. Her father is a poor peasant farmer. His chal-lenge is to feed his large family and provide school uniforms for his chil-dren. Susan loves to read and was excited to receive some books.

Rose is 4, she lives at Villa 16 Star of Hope Orphanage. Her mother died ofAIDS. Rose is in Kindergarten 1 and is the youngest child living at Villa 16.Rose is the last child to arrive at the orphanage and is very attached toMama Krista who runs Villa 16. Rose is a very happy and loving child wholoves to sing and dance. She always has a big smile for everyone.

Hassan and his brother Bakari live at Mwatate Home andRescue Centre. Hassan is 11 and Bakari is 10. Theirparents died and the boys lived alone for a long whileuntil they were rescued and brought to Mwatate Home.Hassan is in Class 5 and Bakari is in Class 3.The brothers love playing soccer, karate and movies.

Jane & Betty are 16 year old twins. These former streetkids were rescued from the streets of Taveta and broughtto Mwatate Home and Rescue Centre. They are both inClass 6. Their hobbies are dancing, singing, reading andplaying soccer. Both sisters would like to study nursing.
